Hi P2 parents
My girl’s teacher is always absent every week. Im worried that different relief teachers are just giving class work with no teaching. Her homework is always not marked and a lot slower than my neighbour son class who is also in Primary 2. Because of that when the teacher comes back she rushes to complete by giving answers. When i revise with my girl after work she doesnt know anything and I must teach her until late. Any other parents from the same p2 class? -

Parents of current students in SD, do u have any concerns with the way of teaching in the school? I have 2 kids in the school and found the teaching method not very effective. As previous parent mentioned, copying answers and sometimes due to tight schedule certain explanation not given. According to my kids, most class work are done by sharing answers in class and then copying down. Is that the way with your kids?

Hi Parents,
I am moving to SK next year, considering to transfer my girls to Springdale primary school, any parents with children currently in this school, could you share more about the school? so far,I read all the negative review, rather worrying. -
I don’t think that such a new school should be given so much hate. My child has taken part in many after school activities that he finds engaging. Every day he would come back home with a smile on his face and will tell me about the cool lessons he had that day. Many parents are complaining about the fact that the school does not have higher Chinese. Although parents might find it a problem I don’t think that the students would like to be separated at such a young age. If your child’s school shoes are cleaned every weekend, they should not get dirty as their PE is often indoors. Most of the teachers that have taught my son have also been teaching for 7+ years. I also find that the work they give is just is just right, not too much not too little. P1’s are usually given 1-2 pages, P2’s are usually given 2-3 pages, P3’s are usually given 4-5 pages and P4’s are usually given 6-7 pages. The amount of homework is also varied depending on your class (only P2 and above) and for the weekend they usually have more homework. P1’s usually don’t have homework once a week, P2 don’t have homework once in 45 days, P3’s usually don’t have homework once every 4 months ad P4 only doesn’t have homework after tests. The school also has many up to date resources which mean the lessons are not as limited by the number of resources. The rules that are not vague and do not limit a child too much, but keeps the school safe. The school also has many awards for well-disciplined students and offer many exemplary roles such as prefects. Many parents have also said that the school does not have as much available YMCA space. you should also consider the fact that the school’s YMCA is shared. The school is constantly being developed. They have almost finished fitting a whole new block to add to the current 4 blocks. There was also a 2nd fitness area built. The school is also very open to suggestions and the students also get to give suggestions and some are chosen to be applied to the school. My kid also finds the teachers there very approachable. There is also a variety of canteen stalls and the food is sold at reasonable prices. They also have a vouchers scheme for lower-income families. The school only requires students to be present from 7:20 - 1:30 which is ideal for most children as they do not get too drowsy and bored at the end of the day. The school also has many CCA’s that will fit every child’s hobby. The students there are taught the right values and are very friendly and respectful. The tests given are also not too hard and allow the school to channel the students into the appropriate class easily and correctly. Overall, the school is not stressful for students, good, and should be given some time to continue to improve based on student and parent suggestions which they are very open to.

Hi, your child is in the same class as my girl?
My kids are in P1 and P4, so not the same class as your girl. -
I don’t think anyone mention about hating the school but just to check if there are parents out there facing similar problems and hope to bring up to the school. My P4 child was transferred from a rather reputable neighbourhood school to here, perhaps I can see some differences in the 2 schools in regards to the activities and academic. My P4 child actually prefers the pace in Springdale as compared to her old school which was more stressful as her old school is more academic thus more homework. But activities wise her old school has much more variety of programmes. I would say is unfair to compare since Springdale is still a rather new school. Academic wise I feel the school needs to work more on it and I have to work more with my kids when they have difficulty understanding from the lessons in school. Overall both my kids enjoy going to school.
Btw there is the banding of subjects in P5 where Higher Chinese has been offered (on top of Normal Chinese) to those with good results. My P4 child used to study Higher Chinese in P3 in her old school and it was not easy for her as there were more homework (which is more difficult compared to normal Chinese). I would say I do not recommend Higher Chinese unless the child is very good in her Mother Tongue, if not it will add more stress to the child. I think is already very good if my kids can excel in normal Chinese so to me Higher Chinese is really unnecessary. -
Any parent with kiddo in p3 this year? My boy just transferred to SDPS this year. Is there any Facebook group or WhatsApp group? :thankyou:
