I LOVE Nigella, especially her gadgets and that beautiful sultry smile. Michael Smith is pretty good too, easy and lots of variety. Jamie is fun to watch, tried a few of his receipes like roast chicken, pasta dishes.

I would love to cook for my family...but let me first get my own kitchen so that i need not feel guilty whenever i trip the oven, break some wares or messed up the kitchen. :politebleah:
You're a good example for mums here to follow, why not start a campaign to encourage all SAHMs to cook for family? -

haha I love to cook and aspire to be like the French chefs, ie: serve delectable food on big plates with some herbs as garnishes... -
Tonite, didn't feel like firing up the stove, so make western food: Oven grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce served with steam broccoli, carrots and mashed pumpkin.
Mashed pumpkin, healthier alternative to mash potatoes and even covers portion of veg if no time to do veg at all.
Ingredients: Estimate 150g of pumpkin per person (I prefer Jap pumpkin, cos its sweeter, Australia butternut squash can be used too), olive oil, salt, pepper, fresh thyme (optional)
1. Cut pumpkin into slices, cut off skin removing all green parts, cut into small chunks, steam in microwave on high for 5 mins.
2. After steaming, put them on a pan (for roasting), drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle a pinch of salt, dash of pepper, a sprig of thyme, toss well.
3. Put pumpkin into a preheated 180 degrees Celsius oven for 10 mins (2 persons portion) or 15 mins (4 persons portion).
4. Take out, remove the thyme and mashed the soft and yummy mix with a fork til all lumps disappear.
5. Ready to serve.
Oven Grilled Salmon:
Ingredients: Salmon fillet (I just use NTUC bought), olive oil, salt, pepper, teriyaki sauce (just use any preferred brand or hoisin sauce mixed with water, dash of cooking wine, grated fresh ginger)
1. Rubbed some olive oil, salt and black pepper onto fillets of salmon.
2. Put them skin side down on a non-stick grill pan and into preheated oven set at 200 degrees Celsius for 8 to 10 mins.
3. When the salmon becomes opaque, smear the terriyaki/hoisin sauce mix and heat for another 2 mins.
4. Turn the fillet over gently, cos it does break apart. Grill the skin side for 5 mins till browned.
5. Smear on the sauce and grill for another 2 mins.
6. Ready to serve.
In the meantime, steam cut broccoli and carrots wedges in microwave oven for 4 mins on high. When its done just toss with a slight drizzle (1/2 teaspoon) of olive oil and pinch of salt and black pepper.
In place of steam broccoli/carrots, can do steam sweet peas, snow peas, grill asparagus, bell peppers (red, yellow), baby tomatoes, etc. If you do grilling, drizzle olive oil, salt and pepper before put to grill.
In place of salmon, can grill Saba fish, boneless chicken thigh and pork chops which can be seasoned with the same hoisin sauce mixed with some crushed garlic, and my all time easy favourite sausages like chipolatas, German bauerwurst, or snapper fillets lightly seasoned with a herb bland of corriander, young ginger, salt. All which can all be bought from NTUC Fairprice.
We opened a nice bottle of Riesling to go with it, DS enjoy the meal with Pokka carrot juice. :celebrate: -
MLR,
Your Grilled Salmon recipe came in time, will try it out as i still have a piece of salmon in my freezer, was wondering how to cook it (never have the chance to as it's always eaten raw)
I love to cook Western too - so much easier as compared to Chinese's 3+1δΈθδΈζ±€
The most recently I cook for family was a week ago, had the mood for Western so went shopping and cook up quite a bit:
http://www.postimage.org/
1)Grilled potatoes with Bratwurst sausages & onions. (boil potatoes for 10min, drained and drizzle with olive oil and grilled/baked with the rest of ingredients)
2)Grilled chicken marinated with olive oil and premixed seasoning from butcher (don't know the ingredients, it was from my sis)
3)Pan fried pork chop marinated with light & dark soy sauce, sugar & sesame oil.
4)Tried making Jamie's handmade pasta, edible but somehow not really a success. (Boil pasta and tossed with olive oil and cherry tomatoes)
5)Mixed veg : broccoli, baby corn & carrot. (cook in water for a few minutes, strained and pan fried with garlic and seasoned with salt))
6)Pan fried mushrooms with garlic, finished with white/rice wine. (i used Jap mushroom - i think called Bunashimeji & Nametake)
