How to Get Smart Kids
-
slmkhoo:
Wow, that's the best compliment and consolation!
My kids are teens, and a few months ago, they told me that their teacher in school asked the class about things they would like to change about their parents. My kids were stumped and couldn't think of anything much (other than maybe to have their parents a bit less strict!). -
buds:
Ya, buds, we've noticed that we often lose control over them after they finished their Mac meals - they start to behave like monkeys, cannot sit still, must move around and laugh hysterically over little jokes ...
Side effect : Hyperactivity which includes talking like a chipmunk in a chipmunk's voice non-stop... except when she sleeps.
You've been warned! -

Hahahaha.....
Btw, 1 yr old can.
At 2 yr old, my dd already can read simple story book, can speak full sentences (i know some are still babbling at this age), shower on her own (with me watching as I'm worried - she was only 2)
[/quote]Darn! I breastfed my 2 kiddos.

Thanks a lot for sharing. We have been under the weather recently, and I realize there's a spillover effect on our kids.
Are we as parents happy? Especially happy with our children? I think our kids are happy when we love them unconditionally, when they don't have to prove anything in order to obtain our approval.Mawar:
I want to know how to get happy kids.
Ps. Don't want spray them with laughing gas type of ideas hor!
When my kids & I enjoy each other's company, just being with each other without thinking about the schedule, just being in the moment, ahh.... I love those moments. It's sheer joy.
Unconditional love, that's difficult. Need to work on that! -
Lynn2010:
I agree that a well nurtured child is likely to do better. And likely perform better academically and socially. Also, research has shown (read it before) that kids who are showered with lots of love, care, hugs from parents grow up better and happier compared to those who dont have.
A simple example will be kids who grow up in a challenging environment (orphans or parents in jail) generally turn out differently from those who have a complete loving family.
This is just \"in general\"
Giving and spending time is sometimes difficult especially when we wear so many hats. Sometimes I feel I give so much, I have nothing more to give. Need to recharge! -

As we learn to be 'good' parents, I am still at Parenting for Dummies 101, we need to balance how much to give and how much to keep. -
How about the DHA in milk powder ? Any proven report?
-
I believe the nutritional impact on the child's cognitive development is minimal if at all noticeable. It only helps the milk powder companies to fatten their bottom lines.
Parenting skills, conducive environment far far outweighs any nutritional benefits one might have in drinking milk powder of any formulation.
The good news is that parenting skills and conducive environment are free
Which goes to show that money can't buy everything. There's just no short cut. -

Wow.... i sure \"kanna\" scolded by many parents here...
Breastfeeding is still the best (without doubt), it is proven. Unfortunately i dont have the patience, get very frustrated during confinement. My mum \"watch\" me literally, very stress.
DD1 3 wks of breastmilk only, DD2 1 wk.
Just that, parents should not fear if they encounter problems with providing breastmilk. Dont get too stress, the cow is standing by you, you can rely on the cows.
