So at the end of the day, looks like it is advantages to try HCL paper at PSLE. Seems nothing to lose if you don't do well but if the result is good, it is a bonus. Is it correct to read it this way?

But... it's one more paper for PSLE leh.
Must ask the experienced parents here- when kids take HCL at PSLE, they only need to prepare for HCL to do both papers? There isn't a separate syllabus for regular CL that they need to follow, right? -
Er, i know this is OT, but anyone here from pre-GEP days? I was just talking to a dinosaur friend who hasn't heard of GEP in her school days... Now, that's quite ancient to me hahaha.

Since both HCL and CL are the same except one is of higher level, I presume the preparations are the same. Of course those who are stronger in the language will do better at HCL and have little problem at CL. Yes I agree let's wait for advices from experienced parents here.

It's like taking 5 papers instead of 4 at PSLE. If your Chinese is good, it's no extra effort. If not, I don't think it's worth the effort for the extra 1-2 points. The extra time could have been spent revising Math or Science. Also not much point if you have no interest in applying to a SAP school. -

from the perspective of NYPS, as long as the kids are okay with it, they would encourage them all to take it
from experience, HCL covers additional chapters from the text, and when you prepare for HCL, you already prepare for CL. -
Thanks jtoh and vk2010. Looks like it all depends on the child's ability in the language. If the ability is strong, then go for the extra 1 or 2 pts. If the ability is weak, then just go for CL and spend more time on the other 3 subjects.
Well I have a clearer picture now. The more we know, the more we could help our child. Thanks again! :rahrah: -
