      What r the prices of 喜羊羊 cartoons at TS videos compared to dangdang?
      dangdang.com is definitely a lot cheaper, but you need to wait 6 to 8 weeks.

      However, I did not buy from dangdang.com, I bought a 6 disc set (a few hundred episodes) from video shops when I was in China, all for about SGD 8 😉

        Oh, I think it’s subjective…maybe some boys can’t sit still and do worksheet…but Montessori is well known for phonics… 😎

          smurf,
          Yes you are right that Montessori is well known for phonics, but the class is not suitable for all kids. Parents should make their own judgment, actually I think that most kids cannot sit still at 4 years old.

            phankao, yes I do have the Sing to Learn DVD! Looks fun! I will put it on more often from now. I just bought Little Pim (Chinese) so I will start my son on that too.
            I personally don't like Little Pim Chinese (after previewing it's videos on the internet).

            For me, the best chinese videos based on Glen Doman's flashcard principles are still the WinktoLearn.com (WTL) videos and then the BabyLearnsChinese.com videos (from HK). For WTL, you can select between simplified and traditional (taiwan or PRC) chinese as well, so you have greater learning scope. My boy can recognise both simplified & traditional chinese.

            However, after you've gone thru' the flashing of card segments in the DVDs, you will go on to phrases, and then sentences - this is covered in WTL videos. And of course after that, you should supplement and continue forward with books. Of course you could have started that concurrently with the DVDs - up to you. If continued exposure is not given, the learning of the language may be too transcient, I'd think.

                phankao, thanks for your response!

                I personally do not know whether Little Pim is any good, will report here if there is any progress!

                I don’t like Glenn Doman (after all that I’ve read about him) but I do have the WTL series of DVD flashcards. We played it for a few months when my son was very young. Unfortunately, he was bored with it so we didn’t continue. My son is a Shichida baby (from 9 months old) so he loves flashcards and his focus and concentration is superb, but the WTL flashcard speed is really too slow compared to Shichida standards plus in-between the flashcard segments, there are long periods of music with photos of scenery, which lost his (and my) interest. But I definitely value an opinion from an experienced mummy, so I will definitely take your advice and try it again. Perhaps my son is at the right stage for it now!

                I didn’t know you can select traditional and simplified Chinese on the WTL - thanks for the tip! I just put it in and press play!

                I completely agree with you that books are necessary. I actually prefer books to video/TV, I try not to let my son have too much TV time. Also trying to prevent him from becoming short-sighted like me!

                  I have read just about all of Glen Doman's books (4 or 5 of them?) bc I was given them free, and have since passed them on too. I was struck by how simplistic the method is. I cannot comment on Shichida bc I have not gone thru' nor read about in detail. The only other area I've read in detail is Suzuki. haha.

                  I have gone thru WTL DVDs in both english & chinese. I have the latest version of the chinese DVDs bc it was exhanged for me (for the old ones) - WTL offers that. The new version has the simplified/traditional options.

                  The old version of WTL has the right-brain high-speed version which I used concurrently with the normal-speed version. Now the new version doesn't have that bc they say the new DVDs all have the function where you can play on higher speed with audio still on. I've tried that too.

                  Anyway, my son started with WTL at 5mths and we could see he could recognise Chinese & English at 10mths old. He's now 2.5yo and can read & speak quite fluently. He can read CL books at this level comfortably:
                  -> http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5212/5505595387_fb140bb1a7_z.jpg
                  -> http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5172/5486978083_edd33eb759.jpg
                  He can read just about any English books bc he somehow realised how to figure out words phonetically.

                  http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5017/5506195356_02f7ef2487.jpg

                  I also followed Glen Doman's advice to make simple books that relates to the child's own lives and the things/activity the child does, so that the language & vocabulary they have learnt comes truly alive.
                  eg. Chinese Book:
                  http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3519/3946442649_2303d34237.jpg
                  http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3529/3982872781_60ce3dd279.jpg

                  eg. English Book:
                  http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2570/3983636602_aaf285f017.jpg
                  http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2433/3861846055_04495a32a2.jpg

                  These books are easy to make once we've made 1 or 2 bc the template would be there already. I'd put in the photos I take of him around the house and on trips. He loves the books, so it really helps in language development.

                  Why do you not like Glen Doman's methods? I've not successfully used his Maths methods though, I'm afraid. Too much trouble. But I've found his language and knowledge-accumulation methods just so amazingly simple.

                    Er.... you shouldn't be showing him the WHOLE CD at one go. Only 1 or 2 lessons at a time. I've timed each lesson to be around 2 to 2.5mins only. If you play it at high-speed mode, it should even be shorter. The music/scenery segment comes only at the end of each lesson - you don't have to show it to your child if he is not interested in it. The same 1 or 2 lessons should be shown for 3 days? Then only do you change to another new set of 1 or 2 lessons. That's what the parents' guide on WTL says. For my baby, bc he was so young, we showed those same 2 lessons for a whole 7-day stretch b4 changing to a new set of 2 lessons. Only after we have completed the full DVD, do I show the revision segment.

                      hi phankao, thanks for your detailed tips! Yes, we did go through the DVD bit by bit, and not the whole thing in one go, at first. We definitely skip the music/scenery section - it’s just too boring haha! After a while of doing bit by bit, my son can finish the whole DVD no problem at all, but subsequently, he just found it too boring and walked off hahaha! So we stopped. Don’t know if it means that he already learned everything or if it means that he finally decided he didn’t like it. Anyway, we will try it again!
