I suppose your child is pre-school.

If so, I would think both CMA and MPM is ok to stimulate the brain. Not sure about Math hub.

            Different aspects?? Can explain? Sorry..

Hmm but which is better to stimulate a child's mind?

Ooops, so sorry for the late reply. But for the benefits of other parents, might as well share.

CMA :- is on abacus and the fundamental is training left and right brain. Many parents always considered the mental calculation as the primary focus. To CMA, the primary focus should be training left and right brain and secondary factor is mental calculation. Does not touch on mathematics logic and analytical mathematics and hence does not promote creative thinking.

MPM :- teaching on mathematics logic, promoting creative thinking.

Maths Hub :- emphasing on logical and analytical mathematics.

If you considering stimulating child's mind, there are loads of other activities besides the above mentioned. Such as Right Brain training activities, sports, piano etc

Hi My son is in P3 now and had attended CMA and now in Maths Hub-Maths Olympiad (going to NMO 1A next term), so I thought that I can share experiences at these 2 schools. My DS joined CMA in K2 and stopped attending end of last year, so he was with CMA for nearly 3 yrs. Though he could do the work well, he did not like the classes as he complained that they were too boring. It was with alot of perserverance (parent’s!) and home support that we managed to keep him there till P2. Finally, we agreed to let him stop at the end of P2, at the multiplication and division stage (unfortunately did not complete) as he was really too bored with the repetitive homework.

Since CMA training involves alot of repetitive exercises, I am not sure if it helps to stimulate the mind but it definitely help in training speed calculation. My DS has been quite good in Math since P1 (90+) so CMA defintely play a part. However, I noticed that due to the CMA mental & speed training, he tends to do his Math sums very (or too) quickly and thus make careless mistakes and also needs alot of reminders to show the workings. He would also remember multiplication table in addition format instead of memorising by hard… Till not, still very hard to change his mindset.
He joined P3 Maths Olympiad at Maths Hub this year and enjoyed the lessons very much. I believe it is because it is more stimulating and interesting for him.
To conclude, CMA is probably good for foundation but may not be suitable for every child esp the active ones and note that alot of discipline is required to complete 4 or 5 books of homework every week!
                    Good Luck!

                      hi Atan,

May I know which MathsHub branch is your DS attending? Are the teachers able to ‘teach’ well? Interested to enrol my P3 son too.

                      Thanks.

                        Hi Mickyhmh,

My DS is at the Bukit Batok branch. The teachers are either graduate or undergraduate and my DS like the teachers (regular lesson & holiday prog) so far. They are 'good' in Math and are good with kids. My DS also like the fact that all work are done in class, no homework to bring home  .
