Belle:
HI,
I hear from my older DD that there will still be 2 sessions next year. Based on the P1 take-in number, this will certainly be. Will the school be moving back to the original site at Marine Parade next year then?
A parent of my DD's classmate said to me that it's still within what is planned, to relocate back in Dec 2015. Nevertheless, every time I pass by the original site and see the progress of the construction, I have this feeling that it will not be ready by end of the year. Anyone have the same feeling??
TNS will continue to operate with P1&P2 in the afternoon session in 2016

Dear Parents
My DD registering P1 this year. We have the option trying for TNS in Phase 2B . Have been hearing some scary stories about TNS being very competitive and not-so-nurturing environment, eg stressed out kids in Tao Nan doing homework until way late into the night and having very little sleep, kids 'breaking down' and not coping or becoming demoralised by the whole pr school experience ....
Could we seek some advice on the Tao Nan school culture from parents with DS/DDs already in the school - anyone willing to share how has the experience been? are teachers caring and nurturing? is there really so much homework (until 11pm even 1am at night we heard) ? is there any emphasis on character education ? ccas ? or is it just academic above all else ?
We were keen on trying for TNS but of late, been hearing some disconcerting feedback and having cold feet ...We wanted a holistic and nurturing environment with academic focus balanced with character and ccas. How has your experience of TNS been ? As phase 2B is almost here (sweat :P), most grateful for any quick sharing/advice !
Many many thanks again !! -

not true at all.
DS has play time every day, this is in addition to his enrichment classes, CCA, etc. And he sleeps at 9:30pm.
Teachers varies. Most of the teachers, especially the more mature, are very caring and well loved by the students.
Dr Chin is famous for being a caring and approachable principal. -
many thanks tankee!
super stressful time now with the P1 registration. as we have a last minute property decision to go with Taonan as well
May I ask if your DS is in lower or upper primary ? guessing that could be the stress starts in upper primary …
Would you say TNS is a school that’s more focused on grooming the top-performing students or one that also helps the weaker ones so that no one is left behind (eg teachers identifying and helping the weaker ones with subject remedial classes ? or do they ask kids to leave or drop a subject just to keep up the school’s aggregate score ?)
grateful for any feedback, TY! -
DS is P6 this year.
IMHO, TNS focuses on every student and when the school suggests to certain students to drop a subject, eg higher chinese, it is for the student’s interest, not the school’s. -
Thanks tankee
Good to hear positive feedback abt TNS!
Trying to reconcile both sides of opinions, I think what we have heard from parents whose kids hv had not so good experiences in TNS maybe due to mismatch in expectations. Hope you don’t mind us asking -guessing your DS must be in GEP or basically one of those top performing class students ? POssibly, the more playful or late-bloomer types may find it stressful to cope in TNS. -
There are always people spreading rumours in hope to lessen the competition in registering for primary one, and increase own chance of success however small.
Best is to judge for yourself than based on some hear say. What i did was spending some time around the school and observed; and spoke with some students. Then i volunteered and get to know the school better during the PV time.
Not sure whether Dr Chin has the time, but you can also try talking to the man in charge himself. He is very approachable and said to read this forum. -
my niece is in primary 2. on some days, don’t even have homework. for days with homework, also very little. can be completed within an hour. my niece, frankly speaking, is not the academic or hardworking type.

Any parents interested to do a car pool or bus pool from SK/Punggol to TNS. Do drop me a PM?
