My question is: Where did Ks2me get the cut off points for these so called "top 10" schools? Are these cut off ponts official or …?

You get the cut-off points from the "Choosing Your Secondary Schools" books distributed by MOE to primary 6 students. Yes the cut-off points are official.

You can also view past years’ cut off points by visiting MOE web site to look at each school statistics.

kiasiparent and lwm99 is right, the root source is from MOE.

Personally, I will just take it as a guide only as such top ten changes from time to time.

Agree...it shd b just a guide...it's safer if the child PSLE score is about 2 to 3 pts above the entry of the sch choice...cos the entry is the previous year's. But i must also add that there's a chance the sch std might drop thus the entry might be lower than previous year's..hard to judge so just a guide.

                    Nice work there, buddy. :rahrah:

Hey... I didn't know Mrs LKY is a MGS girl!

Also, I heard from somewhere that RI boys rule the nation while ACS boys own it... Ha..Ha...
Hey buddy, have been very busy and scanning thru posts quickly.
I was surprised to know Mrs LKY from MGS too but after some thoughts, she does fit the mould. 😉

And the RI rules, ACS own is quite true too... both powerful but in different ways.

Since we are at this topic about top schools, I can't help sharing what I've heard from the grapewine recently.

At a recent school seminar, students were given the opportunity to pose questions to the VIPs, some of which were MPs. Heard that some students from top JCs came with 'canned\" questions that were even longer than the answers given. This frustrated the MPs and the students were told to stop asking all these 'canned' questions. What followed were moments of silence. What saved the day later were the spontaneous questions asked by the 2nd tier JCs students.

Just some food for thought... kinda of sad situation, isn't it?
This is interesting. Top JCs cannot train spontaneity anymore and hence if they become MPs of tomorrow also cannot answer questions on the spot? Sorry for being so cynical.

Ok. All the information is from here

                        http://www.edupoll.org/content/view/415/150/

Note that edupoll is not an official educational research institution in Singapore. Even the use of the term \"SAP schools\" is no longer up to date but they did not change it in their latest report. The did not explain their school ranking methodology and criteria too which is critical and informative for any credible school ranking institution. For example, the criteria and methodology for the annual universities ranking in USA are clearly explained.

Anyway, the school cutoff point can be obtained from the MOE school information website and I have checked. RV cutoff point last year was 254 and NJC was 259. Their average scores are 258 and 262 respectively which place both schools higher than a few in the list. That said, the website already make it clear that it is by prestige. However, who decide what is prestige?
