All About Active Community Leaders

Hi i3mum,
So it really depend on the right timing to get EM in the committee eg if there are many vacancies. I did ask when I was trying to be Community Leader prior in my earlier P1 Registration survellience. Seem like nobody giving me the right information .It was like :stupid:
In the end, I did through the Sch PV method.
Well guess most EM would slowly slowly to get out from the committee since their \"objectives\" had acheive. Well maybe some would have the fun in doing PV though the Grassroot way.i3mum:
Hi titank, my hubby also got his EM when he is there about 3months as a observer, I guess now it is easier.

Hi titank,
Yes, I think so, it depends if there are any vacancies in the GRC. Which GRC are you in? I guess if I can get a chance thru PV, I will go thru it.
But to leave grassroot maybe difficult as you will tend to see the rest of the members as they live nearby, unless you decide to moves after that.titank:

I would like to share my perspective of being a GRL. I read in this forum that some claimed money will bring someone to be a GRL, and some also hope to join as GRL to bring their kids to Phase 2B registration.
However, this could be the objective of the topic in this thread, but it may not be necessary true in the actual situation. I served in one of the constituencies and most of the volunteers are non-business man, in fact they are genuine volunteers that really serve the community.
To share further, I’ve in fact registered my kid to a school (not our school of choice) in phase 2C supplement this year, as we could not get a place for him after the balloting in Phase 2C. I went to seek help from the MP (I was not a GRL then) in the Meet-the-People-Session (MPS), and the MP helped to draft a letter to MOE. Unfortuantely, it was unsuccessful.
However, what struck me hard when I attended the MPS was not getting my kid into a preferred school, but the volunteers that spend their meaningful time to help many unfortunate people, who came forward to seek help. And I was quite impressed and touched. The next thing that I’ve done was to contact the PA and offer my help in my constituency especially in the MPS.
And now, the greatest achievement and benefit that I feel my volunteer work has really paid off is when my kids (3 and 6 years) asked me during the MPS day after I dropped them off at home "Dad, are you going to help people tonite ?" I replied "Yes, I am". And my younger kid would said "ok, you go and help people, and I will see you home tonite".
Can you imagine what value I’ve brought to my kids ? Is amazing … I felt extremely happy when they understand what I was doing, and they do not mind to spare their daddy for that few hours every week. Is a blessing for me … I lose initially for not able to get a school of our choice, but I gained unknowingly being a volunteer. -
Hi marudine,
Yes being a GRL can have the chance to get into the school at Phase 2B. In summary, only be a GRL if you are willing to serve in the comminity & help people. I do agree with you the amount of satisfaction simply can't be measured.
Anyway this is one of the thread of those who can't get to PV & the only way is thry GRL. -

Hi, puzzle
Hi puzzle,
Wow you must be super on the ball where able get EM in Sep 09. I heard some of them almost 12 months still being placed as Observer.
Are you in the 2010 Primary 1 Registration? I guess you would be qualify as long you joined by 30 June 2009.
for what i know is u have to serve 1 year service then u can apply as Phases 2B. As a observer is not counted. You have to become a EM and serve 1 year so ur serving period is from sep 09 to sep 10. -
:?: Can I register my child in more than one school under Phase 2B, one for PV, the other for GRL?

No, you can't. Once you choose a sch to register in for Phase 2B and are successful, your child's details are keyed into MOE's system. If you try to register your child again for Phase 2B in another sch, the staff there will access the MOE system and know that your child has already been accepted into the other sch. -
