If no FT/FW, many many many local SME will move to Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar... or fold!
The fittest survive, and the species will grow stronger and more resilient. Some SME will survive and grow stronger. They will invest in upgrading of Local workers to execute higher level function and/or operate high tech machinery.

SG will grow into highly efficient, high tech society with highly skilled workers. Necessity is the mother of success. Look at SAF again, for inspiration.

Whether they are better or worse... they contribute to our nation's growth. Let's give them their due credit.
        :goodpost:

We're already giving them credit.. for their contribution.. to the growth of congestion, skyrocketing HDB prices, overcrowded MRTs, ballooning COEs, wage suppression etc..

The increase in the density of population in SIN is indeed alarming and if this goes on, (read somewhere that government's targeted population is 6.5 mil), then quality of life here is gonna deteriorate further.

The adverse effects of overcrowding are evident in our transportation system (fully stretched with overcrowded trains/buses and jams on roads), hospitals (longer waiting time), shopping districts and malls (fully thronged), housing cost (sky-high and hardly affordable for our next generation), eateries (jam-packed so much so that you rather stay at home and eat instant noodles if cooking is not your option), and the list goes on....even utilities like electricity and clean water is being stretched.

Many feel the contributing factor to the high density of population in SIN is the uncurbed influx of foreigners here. I concur to this thinking. FTs and FWs, we need them here but not to a full blown figure. Their contributions here have indeed brought SIN to greater heights and we Singaporeans are grateful and appreciative of them. In everything we do, we must strike up a balance. I am sure this problem is something that we don't have to teach our million dollar policy makers what to do and how to go about rectifying and addressing the issue of over population.

If the figure of FT imports is not curbed, I daresay the foreigners will probably be the ones to boot out first in search of better quality of life elsewhere. To some foreigners, Singapore is only the best of the worst.

Btw, the total amount of income taxes that I paid for the last so many years amounting to 1.5x resale 5 rooms HDB flat in Thiong Bahru in current resale market price hor.... well, 19 years to be exact... my little contribution surely helped the gov's budget for some folks to many awards/grants/schoolarships.... well, 施比受有褔,I am just so proud that I can contribute!

              Cows do come home!

but anyway, personally, I feel PRs with citizen spouse are not the same as whole family PRs (FT). I would regard PRs with citizen spouse as locals… but that’s my person view only.

So, to all the arm-chair experts out there casting bricks at government policy, which is the greater culprit for property price rise. Easy credit and low interest rates, or population influx?

Suggest you check out the rise in landed property prices over the last 3 years, where there is minimal foreign participation.
