      hi poppy15,

      I had helped to pose your qn to Dr. Yeap. See what guru has to say to all K2 parents out here reading this thread - since in another 6 months from now, your child starts P1 Term 1 2012, and you will soon be joining the rank of all mommies out here.

      ‘DS in K2 now, will be P1 next year.

      am i too kiasu to be purchasing this ‘Olympiad Maths Trainer 1 or 2’, by Terry Chew now ? or what is worthwhile to buy ? please advise.’

      here is Dr. Yeap’s reply:-
      ================
      there are two books here:-

      1) Olympiad Maths Trainer 1http://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=0&vpd001=93235

      2) Olympiad Maths Trainer 2http://sapgrp.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=508

      may click, view sample contents inside:
      http://sapgrp.com/shop/images/pdf/9789812749055_Preface.pdf

      Dr. Yeap’s answer:
      =============
      both are about the same. Just pick one.

      you may go through the problems with your son. But do it like an activity / game, not worksheet style.

      because at this age - kids still learn best at Kindergarten, through touching sensation, playing interaction. Focus on the social / language / communication skills, as the child plays meaningfully. The academic skills will develop automatically, through these activities. The academic skills will be picked up somehow, along the way.’

        hi poppy15,

        you are welcome!

        also heard that a number of primary schools using Li Fanglan ' Primary 1 Process Skills In Problem Solving Level 1'. You may browse through contents, quite good:-
        http://www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vca001=112&vpd001=93206

        perhaps try to turn all the qns inside the book into playing activity games with your child.

                        hi SAHM_TAN and LeeTaiTai,

                        Primary 1 'Visible Thinking Maths 1A and 1B' also good.

                        the examples illustrated inside - contain topics for ( + - x / ) visible concepts that deal with visuals. Hence useful because then, children can visualize, can 'see'. Once kindergarten K2 children can feel, can sense, can touch the objects, they understand concepts easier & much better.

                        publisher is Marshall Cavendish, with comments inside from Dr. Yeap.

                        can buy cheaper during Popular bookfair - around June, or late Nov / Dec.
