      hi TGP parents,

I am a new member here. My DD will be in TGPS next year P1. The problem is she still cannot read very well and has no math concept. Will the school guide extra lesson for P1 for such students?

        Hi Concern_mum,

So glad to have one more parent that I can network with as my DD is also going into P1 next year. Earlier in the post, someone mentioned that there’s learning support programme for pupils who are weak in their EL or MA. If you are interested to look for P1 prep class and reading class for Yr child, you can pm me.

Hi Beauty 79, nice to know you. My DD has a bit of learning difficulty or maybe i coach her a bit too late. Currently i am trying to make her read EL and CL book. The progress is a bit slow. i intend to coach her myself because we ever sent her to phonic and reading class but it doesn’t help.

            Hi Concern_mum,

Welcome to the forum. I sure hope you will find valuable information here.

For Math concept, I used to play game with my DSs. Like I will ask them question like if everyone in the family has a bicycle, how many wheels will that be. I read from a book that suggests playing shopping mall will be fun and good to teach math concept. You can let your DD be the store keeper and you be the customer to teach her addition and substraction and concept of number or even weight. Let her sell things she like and let her set the price. Make it like a game playing and not like teaching so that she will enjoy the game more.

As for reading, start with simple books or books with topic she may be interested first. Encourage her to read after you and take it easy.

The more important is to take it slowly and enjoy the process and bonding time. Don't stress both of you out. I am sure with your patient, she will turn out all right. All the best :rahrah:

Yes indeed needs a lot of patient. We will slowly learn and grow together with our children. Our children grow up and we grow wiser and more patient. Being a mother who cares for the well being of your child, I am sure you will be able to do that.

                  Hi Concern_mom,

                  Welcome to the TGPS forum.

Yes, attending to child - we, as parents, really need to achieve the 3P policy - Patience,Patience and Patience. This is the simplest formula but hard to practise sometimes because we may run out of positive vibes.

That's why we need to get positive energy (feedbacks) from other parents to regain the patient... 😄

Everyday will be a new learning experience as each child is different and special in their own way.

The Learning Support program will help students whom are weak in the subjects and hopefully as they grow along, their interest increase and will become better at all.

All the best to your DD education journey and hope she will likes the TGPS family.

                  Regards,
                  Astee

                      Hi everyone,

Just for fun, I went for a school visit during June holidays n the Science HOD brought us around the school. He showed us the P1 classrooms n mentioned that not all are on ground level. These classrooms have colourful paintings. He showed us a half classroom n mentioned that the room was for small group teaching when some pupils who are not able to follow their own classes are taken out of their classes to be taught separately. A parent asked n he replied weaker pupils taken out during class time n not after school extra lessons.

                        Hi Concern_mum,

I would suggest you check the schedule with the form teacher on the upcoming orientation day as each year, curriculum and schedule is different.

                        regards,
                        astee
