hi all,

can i check what is the pace like in the school compared to other school? is it fast pace? what is the typically day like? do anyone stayed at buangkok area (sengkang) have kid going to catholic high primary? is it very far and inconvenient? i dun own a car btw..thanks, it will help in my assessment for the school for my kid..

      Hi lchunleo,

P1 & P2 is usually honeymoon years for the kids, heard there is no exam till term 4 in P2, however there is regular assessment. Kids are fast learner and adapts to enviornment faster then adult, do not be overly concern especially if they join a school from P1,they will make friends in no time. My boy used to stay in Hougang St.91 with my parents, the school bus will pick him up at 0615am and there's already a boy living in tampine on the bus. No big deal for kids as they can sleep on the bus 🙂

CHS is a good school and teacher are very responsible and concern about the progress of their students. You should not give up your 100% confirm place in CHS. CHS has an affiliated sec school & going IP soon, this is a big advantage for CHS primary boys, as they will usually have lower cut-off points for their boys to go CHS sec school compared to boys from other schools.

As Cherrygal mentioned, many will kill to get in hence consider carefully. In China people is willing to travel 2-3 hours one way on public transport to study into a good school, in Japan people travel 3-4 hours one way on the public transport to go to work, Spore is so small, put your boy on school bus. If it really gets too tough to manage then transfer him to a nearby school at a later date P3/P4.

      Just my 2 cents...

      :goodpost:

My DS wakes up at 5.45am, the school bus comes at 6.15am, and DS reaches school at 6.45am, every school day.. Tired? Sometimes, when DS sleeps late at night. Otherwise, he is as energetic as a bull, and can still play soccer before school assembly at 7.15am.. 😉
thanks all for your encouragement and views. Sorry for this late reply as have been and still am contemplating..haha..seem there is still some time...but convincing my spouse is another challenging part..haha...i see people from sembawang goes to school, really kowtow..

actually i had done some online computation on the journey, hmm..with mrt and bus it takes about 30+ mins. The only worry is about the student care services. who to take care of DS after school. Am curious, if there student care in the school, if no, how you all settle your child if you are at work? 😄

Nothing, we stay Sembawang too, DS P1 to P6 to S1 take school bus. S2 & S3 go himself.

The school bus auntie during my school time also school bus auntie. 😄

The canteen drinks auntie during my school time also drinks auntie. 😄

There are few after school student care centres nearby and they go to the school to bring the boys.

We are staying in Sengkang. My hubby drives our Sec 1 boy to CHS at 7am every morning. He has to come home by himself & the traveling time is 40 min. We will not pick CHS even it is a good school, if he is only in P1.

Our son is now big enough to travel by himself & takes care of himself. He also requires less hours of sleep comparing to the lower primary kids. Having enough sleep is very important so that they could concentrate in class.

We use student care centres. Get the school bus to send kid to the designated student care centre. The teacher at the centre will \"pick up\" the kid from the agreed meeting point and take the kid to the centre. Then they will get the kids to eat lunch, do homework etc. All you need to do is pick him up before 7pm, give him dinner and relax. No need to coach on daily homework any more so you can spend quality time with kid.

Best for you to get a centre nearer your home then you won't need to go to Bishan to pick your son then go back home to Buangkok every evening. It's out of the way.

I pm you the name of a student care centre in Buangkok that is not bad.

                  Hi

May I know if there is any existing school bus that plys between CHS and either Kovan or Tanjong Katong area? Any idea what is the bus pick up and drop off time for either location?

Asking bec we are most likely going to send my boy for p1 at chs in 2015, and thinking that we should probably start adjusting his sleeping and wake up time early next year in preparation for the changes in body clock timing. Sorry I know it’s rather kiasu to plan so far ahead… but he’s currently sleeping and waking rather late… hence we probably need some time and discipline (ourselves too) to adjust the family’s timing…
