Getting into phase 2b via grassroots. The balloting chance seems like it’s getting slimmer and slimmer by the year! If the moe stats is anhtnjg to go by its close to 50% only this year?
Hi anybody has the stats for this year for catholic high at phase 2b? I saw the stats on the moe website but wondering how many are actually within 1km. I have a Son and we are hoping to apply at phase 2b next year (SC 1km) but the stats looks so daunting!

It's almost guaranteed balloting for SC < 1km year after year (only exception was 2016).
Assuming you are getting in via religious affiliation, you don't really have many other choices or schools to go to, unless you are willing to consider St Gab.
You might want to consider other co-ed in Bishan TPY GRC like Ai Tong or Pei Chun.
But if me, I would also try ballot at 2B and 2C to get into this boy’s school 🙂

If there’s no balloting for ATS, I’ll run over there instead. You should also be between 1km and 2km for KCPPS, that’s another possibility if prefer a school with affiliation.

Balloting for CHS and failing to get it in Phase 2B means you will have to show hand for CHS in Phase 2C since KCPPS will also ballot and no chance for ATS for you. Phase 2CS will be only GYPS.

i am 1-2km from Ai Tong and >2km from pcps. It sort of also depends if the sch announces the breakdown right? Cos otherwise, even though say ATS is only oversubscribed by 1 this year at phase 2b, it’s also difficult to ascertain whether I even stand a balloting chance at 1-2km. Same for pcps which is even worse considering I’m >2km away.

My original approach was also the showhand approach, try at 2b and 2c and be prepared to go to gyps. But looking at the stats last year and this year, I wonder if it’s still a prudent approach.

Personal preference for this sch in view of the many good reviews I have heard and of cos proximity (short walking distance away). I believe that’s prob the stand of many ppl that’s why ppl are swarming to this sch!

I know the topography of Bishan-Toa Payoh very well 😂

Without a doubt, there are many good things to say CHS. However, good things to say won’t make a all-or-nothing approach a smart one, it’s just plain stupid. If you ended up in Phase 2CS, all those good things are irrelevant and meaningless to you.

20 seats for Phase 2B and 2C is pretty much a given next year. Question is how many will take the balloting option. For Catholics, not much of an option in Phase 2B or 2C if they are within 1km (St Gab can always be the backup school in Phase 2CS). For others with options, you may want to use them wisely.

There are probably only 2 schools worth exercising your Phase 2B option in: CHS and ATS (I won’t even consider PCPS since the risk is pretty high for > 2km). CHS is guaranteed a chance at the ballot whereas ATS may / may not. The prudent thing would be to take your time and spend some time on the last day studying the take up rate of both schools before jumping all-in.

If both CHS and ATS need to ballot in Phase 2B, you will probably be better off sticking with CHS where your odds are 1 in 2. If ATS doesn’t ballot for 1 to 2km, that will probably be the better option. Both schools will list the breakdown on a whiteboard, you should have no problem finding the info with a bit of legwork.

Phase 2C will be your last stop saloon. It will be all-in for CHS and then GYPS for Phase 2CS (if you end up there).

Just to add on for this year’s Phase 2B:
Ai Tong School-Balloting will be conducted for Singapore Citizen children residing outside 2km of the school.
Catholic High School (Primary Section)-Balloting will be conducted for Singapore Citizen children residing within 1km of the school.

Don’t be too quick to decide and shut down all options.

Thanks very much for your input! After pondering abt it for one night I think that’s prob what I’m going to do as well. It will be most helpful if the schools do a breakdown that’s displayed so that there’s really a bit more informed decision. I don’t feel so hopeful abt next year considering it’s the horse year.

Having said that, anybody actually knows the actual number that are within 1km for cat high this year?

I am thinking to enroll my son to CHS as my husband is an old boy.

Is there any Chinese related classes or activities in school outside the Chinese class?

                      Hi

I have read some posts and realise some parents stay in woodlands. My boy is going to CHS next year and i wish to explore private tpt arrangement. Is there any parents in woodlands, and will like to consider joining the arrangement? If so, pls pm me.
                      thanks.
