      meiah:

just to add, the violin lessons are to source for members for the strings cca. especially when competition approaching, they will start conducting audition. My boy kenna cello in strings during p3 even tho he never play cello b4. P4 go syf. Then switch to violin in p5. If in the CCA, they practise in sections on diff days, sometimes in the mornings too. So my son now got afternoon x2 a wk and morning violin too. A bit worried abt him practising too much cos he's taking psle this year.
Haiyah, during the run-up to syf, it's always like that. It used to be morning practices 5x/week in the 2006 syf plus 3x afternoon practices !!! Then in 2008 syf, it was reduced to 3x/week for morning practices and 2x afternoon practices. This year, it's similar? Or only 2x/week mornings plus 2x/week afternoons?

My younger boy in another CCA is having 2x/week morning plus 3x/week afternoon practices. Will be glad when April's competitions over! Can breathe. Altho' the schedule is tight, it is all quite exciting, lah.

 the practise seems very hectic! While I can understand dat practise will be more intensive before competition but are both of yr Ds coping well with studies...did the boys complain?

My elder boy did quite ok. He's quite good in math - not sure if musical training has anything to do with this(!). He's in Year 1 in sec sch already and having a equally, if not more challenging schedule, so his primary school years in CHS were very good training for him.

My younger boy so far has been doing alright. Not supersmart, but keeps an above average performance in school with chinese and math being his better subjects.

I monitor their schedule quite closely though.

my DS which just join CHS in P4, did not get any notification for the CCA till now.

The earlier acceptance form was returned to the school before 26 Jan.
Anyway, last week dropped the CCA HOD about this. Guess what… they said they did not receive the form… Seems like CCA is not compulsary. Else they should realized that someone is not assigned to any CCA.

Now they asked my DS to wait for April before starting his CCA which is Choir…

If you're staying in Yishun area, can follow when my wife bring my DS home? He only stay back in school every Wed till 4.30pm. By that time, I'll rush back from office to fetch them at 5.15pm...

Thanks for your information. We just move to Bishan area after my son was transfered to CHS this term. If your son is also in P4 charity, I think I know who he is. Is he very tall?
