Yes I notice that our dear Principal stresses that alot these days especially at p1 orientation. However , parents need to ask him one v important question. How many DSA successes are there each year? CHS itself can only take in 30+. Mostly CHS sec takes in students from outside. And there’s only the DSA domains of Sports & CO to apply for under CHS Sec.
Many of the top boys’ schools eg. RI/HCI, etc etc, take in under sports or GEP only. Very few under performing arts CCA. And if so, the 1 or 2 they offer DSA to are national prizewinners or else rare chance. But yes, as you say, it’s good enrichment.
My elder boy, now at sec 2 in another sch, did band and strings in CHS pri. Couldn’t use for DSA bc most schools didn’t have those DSA domains. Even CHS doesn’t have! He applied for DSA under general domain. I suppose his cca involvement in his portfolio shows he has a colourful life apart from academia and that helps I guess.
What’s really important is whether your child enjoys what he does in the cca. Both my older boys are/were in performing CCAs in CHS pri. Both started their musical learning bc of the CCAs. But as they enjoyed, they excelled and advanced well. It would have been ok if they preferred other CCAs. Enjoyment is the key to doing well.
Hope that helps put things in perspective. -
If your intention is DSA, better check CHS website what CCA is able to DSA before you think you are cheated and also wasting time epecially if you DS do not enjoy it comes P6/S1.

Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to say too... join the CCA IF your child is interested in it and enjoys it. But don't hope that it will bring about a DSA offer unless your child has national rankings...and even so, the schools you are aiming for, may not have the DSA in the domain your child has expertise for.
eg. Chinese Orchestra - no CCA domain for Chinese orchestra for either RI or HCI. So really, don't be disappointed and be \"cheated\" by what the principal says lor. -

Thanks, that really puts things in perspective; but, too bad, there are many mothers who are really hopeful and let the boys join CCA becoz of DSA...What's really important is whether your child enjoys what he does in the cca. I am considering to transfer my boy to CH. Any kind parents please advise me how do I go about doing it?
Hi, is your boy P1 or ...? I think it's easier to transfer at lower primary.
You could contact the school principal and see what he says about it (I believe there is a waitlist).
