Hi, may i know are there school camps for the P5s? Which month is it usually in?
During my DS time, it was T3W4 (around 3rd week of July). But it may vary from year to year. It may be dependent on dates allocated by MOE for the camp site? Best to check with the form teacher.

My friend is concerned about her P4 DS who will be taking PSLE in 2021. I told her CHS had very good PSLE results in Maths & Science during my DS time so her DS should be fine as long as he keeps up his standard in P5 next year. But she said parents with elder siblings shared that the school has reduced challenging components for Maths and Science. She is worried that this would affect CHS PSLE performance.

Any parents take pics of the PSLE Performance statistics during the PSLE Release Day last month so that I can share with my friend? Can pm me instead of replying here.

      :thankyou:

      Hihi,

Any parent can share with me if the P4 classes are streamed or are they of mixed ability?

Are there any top classes other than the GEP classes?

Do they have BICEP programme here for those who made it to GEP round 2 but not the programme?

      Thanks for your help!
No streaming for P4 classes (ie mixed ability) since a few years back.

      No top classes.

      No BICEP.

The above is what I know unless there have been recent changes. If I am not wrong, there will be a new P next year but I do not think streaming will be back.

Hi, may I know if there is a top class or best 2 top classes in Pri 5 this year?

No. The boys are not allocated based on academics but there are usually 1 or 2 classes with boys from the same sports CCAs (e.g., volleyball, basketball, table tennis).
Hi,

My DS is moving to CH next year. Can anyone advise what is the top 2 classes in P3? Any mummies with boys gg to class 3 Goodness?
      TIA šŸ™‚

      Welcome to CHS šŸ™‚

There are no top P3 class(es) this year. Last year's P2s were allocated \"randomly\" to their P3 classes though it did not seem totally random, e.g., group by CCAs, ... etc

      Thx Chschs šŸ™‚
My DS is offered Sch band for CCA.
Any idea how the CCA point works?
Hi sindy,

Hello, any parent can help to advise what to expect for Primary 1 Catholic High curriculum? My boy is entering primary next year in 2013, I am just thinking how can I prepare him for next year in Catholic High.. thanks in advance for any advice... šŸ™‚

I'm the relaxed mum type, so I can only give my humble opinion: all my sons attended NTUC childcare, and I find that what they learnt at the childcare is good enough. The childcare has P1 preparatory curriculum that include han yu pin yin, english vocab, basic math concept eg number bonds etc.

So if your son's pre-school prepares them well, you need not worry. If you want to enhance it, you may send him for phonics & reading, and near year end, you may check out advertisements for P1 preparatory courses by the various enrichment centres.

I prefer to let my kids enjoy the last year of their pre-school.

If you want to help to enhance your kid's readiness, perhaps just buy or borrow both english & chinese books to read to them, as the school emphasised bilingulism.

As for math, they can pick up from the school. Incidentally, CHS uses their own Math material, produced by the school itself. It is a very good material to prepare them upto PSLE, so you need not worry.

Also, now P1 has no exams, only amode (alternative mode of assessment) for Term 2 to 4. So it is quite relaxed.

      :goodpost:

Reading is indeed important. Do cultivate his reading interests by reading together with him and slowly transitioning him to read independently. The boys need to bring a story book to school everyday.

For certain Amodes that the boys took for the first time (e.g., Show & Tell, Oral, Grammar, ....), the teachers had mock tests to prepare them before the actual ones.

My boy did not have any prep other than his Kindergarten curriculum too and he did well in his P1. But some parents think that the Maths syllabus is a bit demanding. The school keeps the parents informed what they have covered weekly and if you pay attention to his worksheets (which parents are asked to sign from time to time), there should be sufficient time for you to prepare him before the first Amodes (end of Term 1 or beginning of Term 2).

The biggest transition is perhaps the longer school hours and the canteen (buying food on their own after being taken care by P5 buddies during orientation).

Let your boy look forward to his P1 days šŸ™‚

This so call jump is throughout all Pri, not just CHS.

The jump is P2 to P3, cause you will realised your kids P1/P2 result like very good, and P3 suddenly drop until your jaw drop.

The next jump is P4 to P5, you will see another round of result drop.
      Thanks JonC!

Some parents get stressed when their kids started scoring less than their \"usual\" range.

For me, the actual scores are not so important since it depends on the difficulty of the paper. After knowing about the \"big jump\" (many parents of different schools mentioned that ... though the actual level differed from one to another), it would be good to know the level's overall scores as a benchmark.

      Hi,

Can anyone share the overall SA2 results for year 2011 ... the small attachment slip that comes with the report book indicating the level mean, max, ... marks for each subject? Some parents said it is a big jump from P2 to P3 while others said it is from P3 to P4.

Also, does CHS release such statistics for every test or just SA2? I know some schools do that for every test.

      Thanks.

the big jump is p3 to p4. So far chs release statistic for Sa1 & Sa2. During DS1 time, they hv ca1, ca2 also. So also hv statistic. But by DS2 time, only amode, so no stat given for ca1 & ca2.

Is ur ds in P3? My ds2 hand in report bk already, otherwise i can scan the slip n post here.

Hi, he is in P2 šŸ™‚ I am just curious to know the level stats to know when the big jump occurs. If CHS provides the stats for every test or term (like some other schools I know of), then we would know the jump straight away after each test but unfortunately they don't.

Can you share why the big jump is p3 to p4? More homework or big drop in Level Mean Scores?

      Thanks!
