Think phankao is correct. What dsa? If consistently can't perform within the top 10% of cohort, kwai kwai stay put. Go to esteem neighbour for what!

Edureach, you may just not be On the same train of thot. The boy can also do DSA to CHS itself. but the DSA domains available are very limited. only sports and CO. Sometimes dance and band. Worse yet, one of the cca from pri, a very good one- strings, is not even available as a cca in sec. Aargh.

If from pri still needs to dsa to sec, can the boy really cope? Generous discount of 15 marks already given.

Tks for your reply. FYI, my ds was from a neighbourhood pri sch and attended CHS from 2006-2009.

Yeah! Throughout whole sch life no mugging except now. He considers A-level as most crutial whereas PSLE and 0-level as passing placement exams.

anyway, my p6 also hopes to continue into CHS sec, unlike his big bro. He’s doing DSA also lah. Good for the "just-in-case". For you info, CHS sec actually rarely takes in DSA for their own pri boys and and they often still set some kind of COP to be met too (unlike the top schools). In a way, better than having to appeal if need to.

According to what i have learnt from my ds, those affilated boys that enter with 230 and above are better able to cope after initial struggling than those dsa thru sports at below 230. The latter really lacked behind during his times and can only take a 7-subject combination in sec3. Both groups form the minorities nowadays.

Mine not sports, so won't be in special sports class. He should be around that kind of 230 standard at the very minimum in any case. Just not a very predictable child. He also doesn't have to spend extra time to prepare for dsa bc he basically does not need to do anything extra special to prepare. So it will not take much time away from his own studies/psle prep.

My ds2 will be in sports class if he manages to dsa to chs. However I’m not relying on the dsa route too much. His scores currently are similar to my ds1 when he was also in p3. The kind that are not worthed looking at! For him to dsa, usually schs would look at top 8 national ranking, zone competitions, prizes, awards, … more than a bit tough if he is just an average player. Since he’s only P3 now, it’s hard to even know if he would be selected for junior/senior team members in future. So if he has nothing to his name, then dsa to him would be useless.

Comparing to my ds1 who used to be in strings. I thought I could dsa him to some place but after looking at the criteria of certain schools and all those admission testings, I had no idea where he could go even though he had achieved SYF Gold and Gold with Honours and had clocked many performances. So we went with psle route. He got in chs sec and he was lost when it came to cca. He failed sports trials, there’s no strings and he could only join some music groups (also must go for audition) and uniform groups! Anyway, he joined band and he’s very happy there so far.
