H2 biology is a mandatory subject requirement for admission to undergrad courses such as food science and technology and all majors under life sciences.
If your dd is a mathematically inclined student and has decided not to pursue any of the above courses then proceed to take physics, maths and chem plus 1 humanities.

RE: MP echoes calls for PSLE to be scrapped
Generally, throughout a student’s academic journey, each has a performance cycle. Some peak early while others late. This explains why a fair numbers with T-score in the range of 190-230 able to make it while there are others with T-score of 250-267 failed to make it.

RE: PM Lee: What future do you want for Singapore?
Its a personal choice for unmarried or singles to hve kids, this one can’t help but agreed. Of course there are adverse consequences as pointed out by many here.
The promoters try hard to convince others that’s they hve the financial means and there’s indeed nothing wrong as it is in one’s state of mind. This statement its totally rubbish! There’s such a thing as wrong instead of no right or wrong and in this instance, it is incorrect for singles or unmarried couples to procreate as their off springs will hve to bear the brunt. Fortunately, our government is wise enough not to acceed to the request to amend existing policies.
Supposing the promoters of alternative life style hve their way, two things will sure to happen. First, our society will sure to disintegrade and deteriorate and once this happen, it will lead to the second one- that is the ruling party will lose power sooner than expected! -
RE: DSA 2012
BeContended
There’s no doubt that as far as pure sciences are concerned, NUSH is ahead whereas ACSI is ahead in humanities. RVH is sanwiched btw these two in both areas. I know is difficult at this juncture to determine whether your ds is more comfortable in scientific discovery and research or expires to be a leader in an organisation in the future. That’s why every single factor must be considered and a judgmental call made.
Let me introduce more factors at this juncture. When a pupil is able to secure a place in an IP or a top 0-level school, just doing well in academics does not reflect a pupil has received a holistic education. Its the total experience incl of academics, ccas achievements, character development and leadership opportunities that a student brings along to his next journey. So you hve to be confident which school amongst these threes can bring out the best from your ds. Especially in the areas of character building and leadership, a leader is chosen. As the saying goes: Leaders by calling and servants by choice. These two factors differentiate btw high scorers ie a pupil with a T-score of 250 with good leadership qualities is superior at work place vs another pupil with top T-score of 280. A good leader can hire someone more intelligent than him to work under him.
Next, we need to discuss the marking system of IB vs A-levels. In A-levels, a min of 70 marks is considered a distinction, of course subject to moderation. In IB , to get 7 points, one needs to score from 67-90 for HL and 66-86 for SL. In addition, there’s this internal assessment in IB which may accounts for up to 30 marks depending on subjects. IB calls for consistency!
The last point, we need to discuss about is the cost of education. Obviously, amongst these 3, ACSI is the most costly whereas, RVH is the most economical. The school’s fees in ACSI in yr 5/6 is $450/mth. The examination fees are doubled that of RVH. This will not be an issue if your ds did very well.
In summary, any of the above school is a good choice. More is expected of you in this decision making and i hope my imput will help you to reach a wise decision. -

I don’t hve much to share about these two schools. One thing you can do now is to chk their schools’ ranking and cop. The lower the cut off and higher the ranking is the higher valued added one.
At the end of the day, choose one he’s more comfortable with as he’s going to spend the next few yrs there. -

The bottom line is if he scored just below 200, is better to place him in NA of a known neighbourhood sec sch. At least you can look forward to promotion to express if he does well in addition to better enviroment vis-a vis lesser knwn schs. The discipline at Zhong Hua is relatively strict while at Presbytarian High, good values will be imparted to him. The latter will pray for your kid whether he is a believer or not. Miracles may just happen, we don’t know.
Let me share with you two success stories:
1. A guy who is now in 2nd yr of ns scored 194 psle yr 2004 and studied at Serangoon jc, a lower tier jc. He did well to secure a place in NUS faculty of engineering and will matriculate next year.
2. This one is a much more stunning case. This guy who is now serving ns studied at Millenia Institute, a 3-yr A-levels course. He topped his school last year and qualified for a place in a local law school. In the process of selection, he miraculously fenced off competitions from many good students hailed from top jcs. He will matriculate in yr 2014.
You need to enforce strict discipline without been seen as nagging. Praise him when opportunities arise and hopefully, he will take off.
I look forward to hearing a success story from you in the near future. -

Take a look at Beatty Sec which is located just off the outskirt of Toa Payoh. Their express cut off is in the region of around low 210. In recent yrs, they managed to be placed at around band 9-10 occassionally.
You should also consider placing your ds to NA stream of Zhong Hua or Presbyterian High and look forward to having the opportunities to be promoted to express at end of sec1. Discipline. motivation and resilence are some of the keys.
Hopefully, your ds do much better than his prelims. Also pray for him and hope that he can proceed to do his desired course in Nanyang poly and eventually does well there. -
RE: All About Working With Children Who Are Weak Academically
All these traits fit in exactly as the one i have at home, my dd.
She is now at jc2. During psle 2006, she was slag in her studies, i had no choice but to dsa her to a girls’ school. She chiong only 3 wks from psle and surprised me and my wife with her T-score.
From yr 1-yr 5, totally not interested in her studies, only talk about music, arts, photography, sports, computer and guys. Her teachers took her to task for open disobedience. She always says that girls cannot be too clever otherwise its difficult to get good guys. Now in her final yr, she has no choice but chiong for a place in uni. Fortunately for her, she woke up her bloody idea since end july. All these while, i hve shown patience and give alot of motivation and guidance but little nagging. She has appreciated it.
So folks, no worries!
