Thank you to all for your warm welcome.

mom2two:
That's a relief, I can sleep better now. I can't imagine needing to prepare a pre-schooler for streaming tests. mom2two, thanks so much for the information. No streaming at p1. You'll know which class your son will be in from the letter you'll receive before orientation. Your son will be in the same class at p1 and P2. Streaming from p2 to p3.
The orientation is very informative. Need to bring sch bag since day 1. You'll be informed which books that your son needs to bring.
No tests (other than spelling and ting xie) during term 1. The tests will start from term 2 onwards.

Thanks for the welcome.Welcome. :rahrah:
Erm.. should be no test lah. Can't remember. But for past practice, they got 1 week orientation when sch reopens, so no need to bring sch bags for a week. They will give you more details during orientation day.

chschs, thanks for the information and welcome.
For this year, they have to bring school bags but some of the books (especially the activity booklets) will be kept in school so that the school bags will be lighter. I think the buddies guide them during the first 2 days only. It's almost \"normal school day\" from 3rd day onwards.
I will read through the earlier pages of this thread so I can get a better idea of how to prepare my boy for CHS. I think the key thing for me now is how to train him to buy his own food (he is very shy). Another practical thing I learnt from the earlier posts on this thread by kind parents is how much pocket money to give him. :lovesite:

Hi, parents are allowed to be in the canteen for the first 2 days of school. Buddies (P5 boys) will \"teach\" the P1 various things (they have a checklist) which include buying food from the canteen during recess. DS's kindergarten trained then how to buy food from canteen during K2 too (1 day). Of course, it is best if you can encourage him to buy things (start with non-spillable stuffs) from food courts, super markets, mini-marts (1 or 2 items) now so that he is comfortable with buying stuffs on his own. As parents we will naturally be worried. But kids learn very fast especially when they see their peers doing it

Is P3 Goodness still the best class and Kindness the 2nd best for Year 2011? Or CHS stopped the streaming from P2 -> P3 already?
But goodness will always be a better class than kindness, despite what the school says as it being the 2 top classes, and no differential.
If not, then why does the top students from each class tend to be sent to \"goodness\"? Even top boys from kindness streams into goodness?
And pri 4goodness has extra programmes, eg. twinning prog with gep like ss and bicep. pri 4 kindness doesn't have. -
It has not changed for years.
Maybe you should check with the school, teachers, VP or even the principal if they have changed this year.
P4 Faithfulness and Gentleness will definitely be the GEP classes.
4 Kindness and Goodness will most probably be those who fail the second test for the GEP problem. -

Hi JonC, I thought CHS keeps it as a \"secret\"It has not changed for years.

I know some schools actually told the P2 parents openly about the P2 -> P3 \"streaming\".
Won't 3 Kindness and Good will move on to 4 Kindness and Goodness (except those who choose GEP)?
How many (roughly) get selected into P4 GEP from CHS P3, i.e., excluding those transferred into P4 GEP from other schools?
Thanks. -
does the sch focus only on GEP classes?
