            Hi, whats PAL n FTGP??

PAL - Programme for Active Learning (PAL)

As part of the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) recommendations accepted by MOE in 2009, PAL was introduced to strengthen the emphasis on non-academic programmes for Primary 1 and 2 pupils. This is in line with a key desired outcome of PERI recommendations to balance the acquisition of knowledge with the development of skills and values. This is to prepare our children for a more dynamic future. Conducted within curriculum time, PAL modules provide pupils with broad exposure in two areas — Sports and Outdoor Education, and Performing and Visual Arts. It aims to facilitate the well-rounded development of pupils in the five learning domains (cognitive, moral, social, aesthetics and physical) and help pupils to develop social emotional competencies.

FTGP - Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP)

FTGP serves as an additional platform for Form Teachers to build better rapport with the pupils so as to enable them to identify the needs of the pupils and provide better support for them. The teachers undergo training to equip them with the skills and resources for them to carry out class-based activities that will better support the development of pupils’ social-emotional competencies. Through FTGP, pupils will have a more structured environment for class and peer interaction, understanding of their emotions and needs and more conversations with their teachers. We hope that with the new structure in place our pupils will grow to be individuals who are confident and having the resilience to overcome future challenges and achieve success.

Me, i attended. I din see thru the morning program..only the last part in the hall. Altho the badge with the kids faces on was a nice idea, personally, i dun tink the young ones appreciate loh. At least mine doesnt, he wanted to take out the badge.
Overall, the first 3 days communications wasnt that good. Diff teachers gave out diff info. For eg, some were told, buddy will be w the kids for two weeks but actually only for two days. Yesterday in the hall, the hod announced to everyone to assemble in the canteen this morning, but actually today assembly was in the hall. If the kid is to go to the canteen on his own, he will be so lost not to find the classmates there. The orientation notification states to wear uniform today but was told yday in the hall to wear tshirt today. Then, the notice pasted ard the school that stated the programmes for these three days have typo errors. The classes were incorrectly stated on the notice.
We were early and the class signages were not up so the kids dun noe whr to sit...some can recognise their cl]assmates were able to sit with their classes, some cant, hv to look ard. We were there ard 725am.
I hope the class signages were up early next mon..or my blur boy may not noe whr to sit.

Oh! Sounds quite bad. Wonder why the miscommunication and errors when this wasn't the first time they organised orientations for P1. 🤷

Ya, honestly, this year’s orientation was quite disorganised as compared to 2 years ago when I attended the orientation for my twins. On the first say of school, there were no signages indicating where to assemble and when we were told to go to the hall, there were again no signages on where each class should be seated. I’m not sure abt the 2nd and 3rd day cos my gal took the schoolbus.

And yes, the orientation programme notification indicated they they shd wear PE attire on the first day and school uniform on the other 2 days. I overheard Mdm Chan, form teacher of 1H, inform e class to wear PE attire the 2nd day but I didn’t hear any formal announcement and my gal’s teacher didn’t mention anything (unless we missed it).
At least, at the end of the 2nd day, we were told to let the kids wear PE attire for the camp.
In terms of the camp, my girl enjoyed it. She told me to buy her shoes with shoe laces cos she can do it by herself now. She liked the idea of the badge cos to her, it signifies something completed. Haha.

Actually, for the past few years, all P1s were supposed to attend the last day of the camp in their PE attire. So, I was quite surprised when I read that they were supposed to turn up in school uniform.
