I am not too sure about the enrichment. When I called the school, I was told it is a compulsory enrichment programme for P3-P5! I think they mentioned Maths (not sure though). Have to wait for the kids to come back home today to know exactly.

The Friday choir is auditions for the SYF. DD & DS told me that this is only till mid-Feb. If they are not selected for the SYF team, then only Wed.

I am also thinking of asking the school if they can move the Friday choir to Thursday. This means atleast Friday is free for them. At the present, they come back at 1:30 only on Mondays and it's incredibly tiring for them. Both DD & DS get so cranky and don't want to study on these days. Don't know how I am going to cope! Thursdays they are in school till 3 anyways, so they can do the choir from 3-5:30. What do you think?

Do you think some parents, atleast the P3 ones should talk to the school? Do you know anyone else whose child is in Choir?

Btw, did you go to the Curriculum talk last week?

Vividlaurel, do you know what's the enrichment for? I didn't think of it till my dad ask me...
Yesterday DS just informed that Friday also have chior...:( I think I have to email the teacher in charge to see if DS can just go for Wed only? He's having tuition on Friday...Very rush for him...

If selected for the SYF, during the March holiday, will need to be back for practise from Mon - Fri (2 - 5 pm). My DD (in P3) is hoping to be selected to go to SYF. :xedfingers:

Ditto for my DD too.... DS is not too sure if he wants to do all the extra work for the SYF...

            hi

i'm new to this thread and considering Beacon for my son (born in 2008).
Like to ask what does mummies and daddies here think?

Does the school adequately prepare them academically? Is it ok to just depend on school without external tuition?

thanks again for your sharing. I'm learning a lot. *blur* 🦆

              Hi lyke,

I can only speak for myself. The question you ask is very subjective. What I may consider adequate may not be enough for you. I have two children in Beacon in P3 and so far they love going to school. My children do not take tuition for any language except MT and till now, they score ok. I know other children who do take tuition, and like I said this depends on the child's ability as well as the parent's feeling of adequate teaching by the school. What I like about the school is that most children I know like going to school and for me that is the best yardstick on whether a school is good or not. Also I find the teachers quite hands on and the school heads willing to listen to parents.

If I am correct, your son should be in the 2015 P1 intake right? The first batch to take PSLE will be next year (2013) and it's only then can anyone gauge the school's standards against the national standard. You may want to wait till the end of next year to see.

One thing though, if the first batch of PSLE students do very well, then interest in the school is going to explode. Already the school ballots at the 2C stage, who knows if they do well, balloting may take place for other stages also.

I would love to hear what do the other mums and dads with children in BCPS say too...

                Hi,

I am new to this thread.

I wish to register my son to Beacon Pri next year but realised that my hse located more than 2km away from the school..... :slapshead:

Need advise whether to try or I should look for another school? :?:

                  Hi Mummy Boy,

From what I remember, Beacon has balloted for the last two years for the 1-2 km, so the chances of you getting a place for your son is low. I may be wrong, but if there are others who remember the statistics better than me, please do correct it.

Do look for other schools also in your neighbourhood just to minimise any chances that you will not be even allowed to ballot. However, with the new P1 registration ruling out, I'm not sure how things will play off!

                    Hi Vividlaurel,

Ok, I think I got no choice but to look for other schools.

                    thank you.

                      Dear Parents,

Does any parent know the overall standard for P2 English Paper (MYE)? Thanks.

If i’m staying within 1km, is my chance high for phase 2c?

i know this school is getting popular at bp zone besides bpps.
