    • RE: Hillgrove Secondary School

My son graduated from Hillgrove about two years back and when I asked him about this, he said classrooms directly facing the tracks do get some disturbances, but they get used to it quickly and after a while, they don't even register the train noise.

      Hope this helps.

Dear Hillgrove parents, I'm a P6 parent. Thinking to include Hillgrove for secondary school selection for my child. As there is a MRT track next just to the school, may I ask how is the noise level from the MRT trains passing by the school.
      Thanks much!

will his ranking of choices under jae affect his probability of what he get into? or is it based on merit of O level results?
From what I know it's based on merit (minus CCA points), followed by the order of choices. So someone with a lower net score than your son may be considered before him, even if his ranking of the course is higher than that other person. Hope this helps

      thanks vividlaurel.

not sure why his teacher said otherwise. teacher said if he rejected the course, he cannot reapply for that course under jae 😞

i cannot seem to find this info anywhere.
Maybe because the teachers don't want students to reject EAE offers. These are usually difficult to get, especially for some courses

if after my child reject the course through eae, can he still apply for the same course under jae?
Yes, as long as he meets the course cut off point and the minimum marks required for certain subjects.

Hi, do they need sec 3 result to apply EAE ?
It depends on the course they are applying to. Some courses ask to see the Sec 3 results when they go for the interview, but some courses don't see the portfolio at all.

The most important is the write-up and then the child's portfolio.

If you need more information, let me know and I will be glad to help.

      Hi,

Any parents here recently faced similar issues of your O' Level child losing motivation in studies? If you managed to improve the situation, can you share some tips and advice pls?
      Hi,

I was in a similar situation as you last year. My son would play games all the time and not focus. Like your girl, he knew which course he wanted to go to, albeit to poly first. I kept nagging, though I know most of the time it went from one ear out to the other. It helped that he didn't have his own laptop, but shared it, so device time was strictly regulated.

Somehow he pulled through and did much better than expected for his O levels and also got a place in his course of choice at his poly of choice through EAE. His O level score also meant that even if he had not gotten the place through EAE, he would have easily gotten a place in the course.

Long story short, keep talking to them, regulate all device usage, allowing some gaming time, maybe after all work for the day is done. She must be good in some subjects, ask her to work on those to strengthen them to aim for an A1 there. Since she knows which JC she wants to go to, maybe you can print the COP of that JC on a paper and paste it at her desk, so she knows what she needs to score at the very minimum to get there.

This is a very delicate age and needs to be handled with care...

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

      Hi,

I have a question. My current helper, who has been with me for about seven years now has now secured a new employer. We really don’t need a helper now, but I was just waiting for her contract to end to either transfer her to send her back. We will be ending her contract on very good terms and will continue to be in touch with her if she remains in future. Her new employer is an elderly lady and what she told me about her salary baffled me.

According to my helper, since her new employer is a single elderly woman, the government will be paying half her salary. I was surprised on hearing this since I have never heard of something like this. So what it means is that if her salary is $500, the employer pays $250 and the govt will pay either my helper or the employer $250. I do know the employer is entitled to the subsidised levy of $60 (I think). Is this what the employer is meaning and which my helper is thinking is about her salary?

My helper is a nice person and has been a good worker, so I don’t want her to be short-changed if this is not true. Hence, reaching out to you all, who know so much more than me to check if this is really true?

      Thanks, everyone!

    • RE: Twins- Do you put them in same class?

      TabNas\" post_id=\"1961699\" time=\"1580711319\" user_id=\"182960:

Yes. It's really adorable if they went to school and went home together. In that case, they can improve their bond with each other. Some twins are so competitive to each other and I don't want it to happen.
Yes, it's better if they went to the same school, especially in kindergarten and primary. It's a logistical nightmare when you consider PTM and other school activities if they are in separate schools.

But all said and done, twins have a special bond. My twins are 16.5 now and even today that bond is very strong. As parents, it is up to us to nurture this bond and strengthen it. Don't compare between them, even if one is academically superior to the other. Instead, make the academically superior twin coach the academically weaker twin. Maybe one twin is better at something else than the other. Use their strengths to get them to help each other.

When they were younger, we used to only buy one toy of any kind and tell them that they have to share! Of course, as they grew older and preferences were established, toys to a large extent became separate (like cars/planes for the boy and dolls for the girl), but by then, it had been established that they had to share.

Thanks floppy! I have seen the FAQ, but it's not very clear on the process post O level results.

      floppy\" post_id=\"1957709\" time=\"1578360682\" user_id=\"97579:

The answer to your question is yes. Once you meet the admission criteria, you are deemed to have accepted the offer, unless you have withdrawn prior. As such, you won’t receive the JAE form as you will not be eligible to take part in JAE.

In between results and enrollment, you go on holiday, work jobs, eat / sleep / be merry 😉

      Hi,

This question is to those whose children were successful in EAE for Poly.

What happens during the results? Will their EAE be confirmed during the results once they meet the MER and <26 points? I know they will not be able to take part in the JAE.

Does the fact that they don’t get the JAE form means their EAE is confirmed?

I have tried looking this up online, but don’t really see what the process will be. I heard the polys will get in touch sometime in end Feb/early March, but what happens between the 13th (when results will be declared) and when the polys get in touch?

If anyone who has been through the process can help out here, it will be highly appreciated!

      Thanks!
