Hi Beacon parents, can I check with you all on girls hairstyles allowed by the school. The P1 information booklet says hair longer than shoulder length must be neatly plaited or tied into a ponytail - do they allow only a single ponytail? My girl’s hair is wavy and always have lots of loose baby hair falling out easily when I tie a single ponytail for her. It looks really messy after a while and she can’t tie on her own yet. Before she can do it herself, I need to tie it in a way that doesn’t mess up easily. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I don't think single ponytail should be a problem. My dd used to wear a single pony when she had shorter hair. But remember to use preferably black rubber bands.

            Hi Parents,

Any of your child starts enrolling themselves into a CCA at P3 level? Most of the CCAs are scheduled on Thursday at 330pm-530pm. How do your child manage her time, between 1:15pm - 3:30pm before CCA starts? Do they usually go home first for lunch then back to school for CCA? Will P3s have problem completing their homework/managing their time on CCA days? My child is currently taking school bus and reaches home at around 2pm. It probably will be tiring (and quite rush) for her to travel to home for lunch and back to school for CCA… How do you & your kids manage ??

            Thanks!

              Hi,

For the P3s, they will have an enrichment activity (full level) on Thursdays before the CCA. So after school ends, they have a lunch break and then enrichment from 2 - 3. Then another break and CCA from 3:30 to 5:30. School bus will bring them back after the CCA. If your child's CCA is not on Thursdays (scouts and choir), then they come back after the enrichment around 3:30 pm.

              Hope this helps

Is it compulsory to have CCA in primary 3? My son is in Pri 3 this year . If compulsory , what CCAs do Beacon Pri offer? How do the P3 students manage their time in completing their homework -also having tuition at home if they have both the enrichment and CCA? Can any parents advise??? Also are a lot of school homework for the P3? Thanks…

In P3 CCA is recommended, not compulsory. Beacon has lots of CCA options, you will soon get a note with the options. Only two CCAs are not on Thursdays - scouts on Mondays and choir on Wednesdays.

The school recognizes that the children will be tired on Thursdays so I guess homework load is less on that day. For tuitions, I guess you will have to rework the days. IMHO it's better to take CCA in P3 as it becomes compulsory from P4 and you still have to manage your time anyways. As far as I know most children take CCA and your child may feel left out if he is not in any!

They do different enrichment programmes during the year - one per semester. My kids did speech and drama for English, then there was one for MT and one more, cant remember! Fees for this comes from edusave

Don't know about the other CCA's but I guess the dance ones (Chinese dance etc) may require auditions. For choir I do know that they audition the children in P2 during music lessons and some selected children are asked to join a special music enrichment programme during Term 3/4. For these children, they prefer that they choose choir as their official CCA.

Yes, on Thursdays after CCA/enrichment, if you take the bus, you have to pay extra. I guess it will different amount per route, for mine it was $2 per trip.
