We could guage her performance for each subject based on the class highest for each subject. However, on the overall based on all 3 subjects, we do not know what is the highest % in class unless we want to ask all the other 5 or 7 parents what their kid got (which I wouldn't lah...). Some may do well for all 3 subjects, or some may do very well for 1 or 2 subjects but badly in the rest... That's why I was wondering how did you know that the class highest is 98% overall for all 3 subjects.
The class teacher will show ppt to the whole class how the students have done for all subjects, class level & the overall level, you can able to tell the highest % in the class by looking at the chart. As for the child overall performance, you need to check with your DD teacher. Her teacher will be able to gauge your DD overall performance in class. No 排名 for P1, not able to know who is first, second or third in class.hamster:
Agree, as long as they did their best, all should :celebrate:Regardless high achiever awards or model pupil awards, the child deserved what they have been achieved for this whole year. Both awardees have done so well :celebrate:

Sorry to hear that. Nevertheless, give your DD a good hug and go celebrate this achievement in your own way! The award is just a piece of paper? What matters more is the actual results, in my opinion. As long as your DD knows it, you know it, that's good already. :hugs:I am soooo sad. My dd is top in her class in terms of average percentage, but she is NOT eligible for the High Achiever Award. Why? Because she is exempted from mother tongue.
I spoke with the P, she said the \"policy\" is based on the average of four subjects and not three. And NYPS has been doing this for a long long time, so cannot change now. I told her even for PSLE, MOE will adjust the scores to give a \"full\" T-score for children with exemption. So for school awards, children with exemption should also not be penalized in this way!!! But she said no. I said, how about a simple letter of commendation even though she cannot attend the ceremony. She said no again.
I soooooo sad.....
My poor girl.....
ps1... it's actually me who feel more sad than my dd. She is ok. She said she preferred not to take the award and keep MT exempted than take MT with the award... ha ha....
ps2... it seems that other schools may have use the average (regardless if it's 3 or 4 subjects). Because the P at first told me it's the average, doesn't matter if it's 3 or 4 subjects (from her previous experience), then after she checked with the VP, she said the \"long\" history of NYPS is that they use the average of 4 subjects and so she won't want to change it now.... -

This was what I did, asked the top 7 parents…normally we will know who has the highest score, that has to depend on the class teacher he/she will disclosed who has the highest score for each test. From the top 3 subjects based on class level… If you add up all the top 3 subjects % and average it out, you will be able to have a rough guide for your DD class %, I know a class has student score 100% for all 3 subjects. -
Sorry to hear that. Yes I was told if my DD miss any of the test, and math performance test, will not entile to any awards. This has been practice for many years. It is the school policy.
So my girl has to change her piano exam, ballet exam to the late afternoon so that she will not missed any school test.
Since is a new principal, many things will change. We never know. :? But I was also heard that this new P would like to see her students been given more chance to excel and award them at the end of the year.
I heard my friend DS school, each year one student receive only one award, unlike some year have been seeing one student received 2 awards.. By doing that, it give more students have the chance to be selected for awards. It help to boost better moral to students who want to achieve it, especially the weaker one.

Hi hamster,
The big problem here is that there is no communication at all that children with MT exemption are not eligible for HA awards! The info sheet the school gave out early in the year states if any test missed except school team competitions, the child's final result will not be eligible for the award. But there is NO mention of those exempted from MT at all, so I had assumed they are eligible. Poor communication!!
Though the P did say she will review this policy so it may take effect next year, my dd already missed the boat this year....
Now I fully understand why some ksp parents say NYPS has poor management of information, and why some parents were so disappointed with the Singapore school system that they chose to leave. Sigh.... -
Thanks to all who have replied me. I got my info from one teacher. From the way I see, seems that different teacher says different thing which means THEY will NOT tell. As for top 4 HA class, it’s zig zag streaming. This, I am sure cos the school did e same for other levels n GEP, Masta classes. It’s more scary cos competition is more " close", as close as full marks for whole class.

Hi, does anyone know how is META prog like in NYPS? Was briefly informed tt kids in META prog will GEP students for some classes except EL, Science, Social Studies n Maths. That means only left with Chinese, music , PE… (what else?) the 2 groups will do together. What’s d point? Also, does it META students are actually in different class from GEP (in other words, GEP students are grouped in one class)?
Hope to clear all these confusion. Many thanks. -
Hi Wintersoul, can you clarify what is zig zag streaming?
