NYPSmum:
Anyone has kids in this year P4 META class? Are the students in META & GEP being placed in the same class? Or GEP is a stand alone class?
Yes, same form class. Only split when they go for EMS. -

There is no LA per say. In fact, I do not recall the term \"LA\" mentioned. MA is mixed ability, not medium.
If I am not wrong, I have been lead to believe that the following is a breakdown of the available
- GEP
- META
- HA (high ability)
- MA
- LA
Crème de la Crème will be the GEP -
Atan:
Hi, the man subject that next yr's META will do with GEP classes is GEP HCL and it is much more demanding n difficult than the mainstream HCL (one parent told me it is 40% compre, 20% vocab & 40% compo). At the end of the day, META kids will do the HCL and CL for PSLE, so I wonder what is the benefit of stressing kid out with GEP HCL while not being able to do SS and other core subjects.
META pupils will also do HCL & SS. SS will be of a different grading scheme (by A,B,C rather than absolute marks).
Other \"perks\" may include study outings to places, which mainstream may not have.
Those in META will continue to be grouped with GEP for P4, 5, 6. While I understand that the HA classes for P4, P5 will be grouped yearly based on performance (need to confirm). -
Busymom:
Not being in the same class with GEP is one thing, but more importantly, what is the syllabus of META based on? Mainstream or GEP?
For EMS, META same as mainstream.
For CL & SS, META follow GEP. But SS grading different.
Hope I have help to answer some queries for the monday decision! -
Thanks HMSG for the posts and clarifications.

I think the different groupings for next year P4 should be as follows:-
- GEP
- META (who are also refer as HA-High ability)
- Mainstream - HA (High achievers) & MA (Mixed abilities)
Correct me if I'm wrong! :yikes: -

From 19Nov11 briefing tt I attended, META students will only join GEP for HCL, music, art, PE and some SS project works.
When come classes for EMS & SS, META students split from GEP. -
How many META classes are there?
-
Busymom:
Not necessary. Those who got into META is strictly based on the GEP Round 2 tests, that is, English and Math (standard + GA). Whereas those in HA are all-rounders (including Chinese and Science, compo, orals, etc.). Some of them may even do better than those in META program during PSLE...
What is MA and LA?thankgod:

So would it be correct to say the students in META would be or should be of higher ability than those in HA?
