The change affects those applying for university admission in 2026. It's not as accurate to go by birth year as NA and MI students will be older than those who took the Express-JC or IP route.
Ok. So it should be read/taken to mean that the first batch of 70 UAS will be those taking their A levels results in Feb 2026.

    • RE: IP, IB vs A Levels

MOE's announcement is vague [1] about whether the 2007 babies will be the first batch of A levels with a 70 UAS.

When I initially heard the announcement, I was under the impression that it would be for those \"taking\" A levels in 2026, hence the 2008 babies.

However, when the media released their articles, they mentioned that PW would be marked as a Pass/Fail from the batch starting JC1 in 2024 (which would be the 2007 babies). If PW is marked as a Pass/Fail, then UAS has to be based on 70.

      Confused!

Does anyone know of instances where a local student current from IP (A Levels) transfers to another local school IP (IB)? If so, when this is transition possible? Start of Year 3? Start of Year 4? Start of Year 5? Thank you!

thankgod, The S1 boys will go through a two days CCA Trial/selection test. After that, your son will have a better idea which CCA options he has. You can discuss with him after that. Promotion from S4 to JC1 (IBDP), CCA expectation is an attendance rate of no less than 75%. (The usual CCA point important for competition of JC places does not apply due to IP track's programme)

trial/selection was done last week? thanks for the heads-up on S4 to JC1 promotion. will let him now the importance of attendance.

that's the disturbing part ... i can \"feel\" that DS wants to try the new CCA but having a 12/13 year old commit to a CCA for the next 4 years without so much as giving it a trial period - that's tough. he knows that if he goes back to his tried and tested CCA, it will be the safer route but there is a nagging feeling that he wants to try something different. being a student in SG is tough 😄

orientation week over ... now to get into real work 😄

qns: for this in the IP program, how does the CCA bonus points work? students won't need the bonus points for o-levels ...

Saw a similar question asked in other thread and am surprised that this is asked as I the school has gone thru it several times. SJI (and in fact almost all schools) looks at the holistic development of each child. While the boy MIGHT NOT need to go through O Level if they are in IP track, academic results is not everything there is in SJI. Also, in the worst case scenario, what if they cannot make it in IP and need to move onto O level track? Not something that has never happened before. The school also look at the character, leadership and skill development of each boy and opportunities and awards are given accordingly.

If anyone is asking this question for your DS, pls tell them that CCA is a commitment and an important of life in SJI. If you are asking this as a parent, I hope it do not negatively influence your DS as they will soon grow to be a man and textbooks is not everything. Instead, ask them to think seriously and commit to it. I like one thing that was shared during the parent orientation brief. Each boy will be able to put in 6 choices for their CCA, and any of the six choices might be something that they can go 'tahan' with for the next 4 years.

good morning ... thank you for the response

agree that there is always chance of going back to the o level track. in fact, this is something that we (DS and myself) have communicated before. if IP isn't for him, we all agreed and are prepared to move him back to the o level track. we are certainly not taking CCA for granted. just need some \"advise\" and \"knowledge\"

at present DS is considering a CCA that he would like to explore i.e. something that he has interest but may not necessarily excel in versus something that he has been doing in his primary school, represented school and have already been \"shortlisted\" in SJI.

if he is doing just for the CCA points, many would say to go to something that he has been already doing and have some foundation versus something that is completely new and unknown.

i am however of a different view. i want him to do something that he has interest in rather than just for the CCA points. if he wants to explore something new, i feel that he should have the opportunity to do so. i;m trying to gather information so that hopefully DS can make a more informed choice. stick with the tried and tested or go with something new ... his choice at the end of the day, just a parent trying to feed him with as much information without clouding his decision.

    • RE: 2015 Sec 1 Discussions

On the topic of tuition, DS has had CL, Math and Science tuition from P4 to P6. Now, he is left with CL, dropping math and science tuition as he claims he wants to see if he is able to cope on his own. Noble of him but at the end of the day, we are all fearful of the results. Guess we will tell in time …

    • RE: 2015 Sec 1 Discussions

My DS has had a smart phone since P5 - yes, there has been issues with overuse etc. but i guess in this connected world, its becoming a necessity. He has been able to keep in touch with his mates and they do sometimes even clarify/help each other with work via whatsapp. I see it more as a necessary evil.

That said, I do express my concern about smartphone usage to my DS and on a number of occasions have expressed my concern about addiction etc. but I guess at Sec school level, I think its time for them to "grow up" and learn to be responsible for their own actions. I hope that by giving him the ability to "think" and decide what is good/bad, he is able to exercise his own judgement. Its scary as a parent to allow your child to decide for himself/herself but I feel its about time to "let go" …
