Hi Tri-mum (are you a mother of 3?)

I just called Maggie. She’s very very helpful and explained the afterschool care service very well.

Here’s a summary of my discussion with her which I hope may be useful to you:

      - student care service is within the school premise and run by YMCA. the typical routine as follows:

for p1, dismissal will be from the sch hall, YMCA teachers will pass the list of students under the student care to the teachers who will gather them and hand them over to the YMCA folks. So these students can get dismissed first.
YMCA teacher will bring the students to the classroom, and then get the girls to wash their hands before proceeding for lunch. Lunch catered from school canteen. Showertime is 5-10 mins aft lunch. 2-3pm is naptime. For those not sleeping, they can take this time to revise their school work, 4- 4.30 is teabreak. 5-5.15 is playtime at the netball court. School bus comes at 6pm to bring the kids back or if parents coming, they must pick the kids before 6.30.

      - monthly fees at S$295 (may be revised according to Maggie). One time non refundable fee of S$50 and an annual misc fee (cover insurance and worksheets/ exercise books) of S$50.

      - 1st time student, 2 free t-shirts given. S$7 for each subsequent purchase. (They will change into the YMCA shirts from sch U after shower).

      - school fees payable even during sch hols (June & Dec) to cover their operations and an additional S$6 per day is chargeable during sch hols (centre will open from 7.30 - 6.30 during school hols).

      - currently they have 104 students and they have 30-32 places for P1. Typical ratio is 1 teacher to 15/17 students. Availability on first come first served basis.

      - tuition (subject to nos interested) may be organised thro external parties on Mon, Wed and Fridays.

-Maggie and her teachers will be having a booth during orientation day so you can sign up then.

      - No visits to view the student care now due to school policy (H1N1). only time to see the premise /facilities is during orientation.

      That’s all for now

          Hi Tri Mum

You are welcomed! Just passing on the kindness/helpfulness that I experienced from the other mums here.

          See you during the orientation!

Last year, I signed up my girl for the after care before the orientation , so on that day of orientation just collected the YMCA T-shirts. There was long queue for transport , uniform, textbooks etc. It’s better to have two persons, one settled the admin stuffs and other queue to buy textbooks etc. The p1 girls were being taken care of by their buddy on that day.

Initially , she didn’t like it, told us she has no friends there. Spoken to the teachers on this, they said no need to worry after some times they will warm up and they created some games for them to play together as a group. My girl’s class has 7 of them in the after care. Now, she loves going to school and aftercare because she has many friends from different classes and also the seniors , she got to know all of them from the after sch care. That’s one thing good about being in the school after care.
The after care teachers are caring and nice especially their Chinese teacher, very motherly. The p1 girls like her. They also has many activities for them during the school holiday, the June holi, they went to watch Night at the Museum2 , National library, Canopy Walk, science workshops and intensive tuition programme for Math and English, art and craft.etc.

With the intensive tuition during the holidays, do the students do better in the CA2 and SA2? Just wondering if group tuition helps if child is weak or is it better to get one-to-one tuition for 2 days a week at home?

                      Hi,

Does anyone know what sort of enrichment classes are available for P1 girls at St Margaret’s? Am especially interested in those that are more sports related as I feel that kids these days are not active enough. Am all for healthy lifestyle 🙂

So far , my dd in P1 has received invitation to join enrichment classes for ballet, tap dancing, junior tennis and junior netball . CCA will be compulsory in p3. Gymnastic is included during PE lessons in term 3 .
