Hi parents

anyone has any recommendations for a music school around bukit merah that teaches beginner violin lessons? my 7 year old wants to learn (so far no music lessons for her before). she has been asking for it for months and i was thinking of letting her try.

I hope some of the comments were made in jest but they do come across as too vindictive to me.


Why punish the child when he/she is innocent? Is it not punishment enough that the kid gets transferred out of school (when he/she has already adjusted to the environment) and worse case, to have his/her parent serve jail time?

Do we want to become a society where the sins of the father/mother are visited upon the children and the children’s children before we feel vindicated?

Imagine if you are the kid, would such stigmatisation from society be helpful? Will it not cause you to detest it and maybe even detest your own parents from causing you such hurt?

Just my thoughts. And hopefully in near future, our society will become more enlightened and see that education is not about the name of the school you come from but really what goes inside and stays inside your head and your heart.

Maybe he has some disorder. You are right we do not have any background.

Maybe he needs a firm hand, maybe he needs to up his meds. Who knows.

But disorder or not, there should be consequences for the kid for behaving as such. Even special needs kids need to learn boundaries and discipline. And for this kid if he is a special needs kid, he is a high functioning one. Patience can be exercised but not indulgence.

I totally agree with you. Firm hand is a must. At least a signal to the rest of the class that such behaviour cannot be tolerated. Otherwise teacher's authority will be undermined and he will have issues controlling rest of class.

How much did you pay for the rabbit fish? They are usually more expensive around this time of the year right?

I like rabbit fish too but I find that they tend to be bitter if not during the new year period. Fishmonger said it’s due to the roe during the new year season that’s why they taste better. But how to tell if the fish has roe by looking at it?

Turns out this girl has some problems at home and was suspended for a while from school and the teachers/school tried to help counsel her.

Sometimes thrashing may not be the best solution since we do not have the background into the situation.

What does a 7 yr old understand about suspension from school?
If she does not have a dysfunction family, then I think the school should recommend the child be assessed by KK.

My DD has a major issue with Science too. Mad scramble last year after CA2 (after her borderline pass- really) to a band 2 with some last minute tuition. But we found tuition not effective as I am still the one coaching her.

So tuition stopped after SA2. Now scratching my head how to teach her. Currently school is doing Cells topic. I had to sit down with her last week to go through her guide book and to explain the topic. Personally I am not a crafts/hands-on person. So will probably look at what's available.

But what you have done to encourage your DD2 is just great :salute: . Your family is really blessed to have you.

When your kids are grown up, you should really seriously consider teaching again. You will make an excellent teacher
