All new DLS P1 new parents:
I just received a letter fr the school & stated the orientation day details, have you got it? Yesterday I am very tired after work & did not read it in details, but just get to know that my son is in St Gabriel 1 (I think this is the class name) and in Thomas House (Green). When I told my son this and his first reaction from him was “I don like green”. Although I got the same feeling but I am much appreciated as I got in via balloting, still can remember how stressful I am during that time. Recently, there were some young students commit suicides cases due to the stress from the schooling, really feel bad & sad.
Anyway, my dear battle friends, baby2momma, star 89, tri-mum & honeybee: have you start to prepare for the P1? I mean not only the academic, but something like “mentally counseling” to the kid, stationery, after & before school care etc? -
hello hello morning!!!
it has been a while since i logged in.....
anyway, yup all dls P1 kids of year 2010 shld hv
rec'd the orientation notice y'day in the mail....
basically, we'v gotta get the books & uniform next
week before the orientation on the 17/11 becoz they
expect the kid to be dressed in the uniform on 17/11.
also, the kids will hv to bring his pencil case & colour pencils
for i guess some assessment test likely....
my son's in st elizabeth 1 & yellow house colour..... no preference
in colour for him ..... anyone else same same????
i hv yet to get him anything to prep him for P1 but hv
been looking around for a suitable bag though. think will
get one of those ergonomic bags.... seems handy & not so bulky...
opinions from experienced mamas out here???? -
I am quite headache for the school bag also. My friend told me that better to wait when Popular got sale, She got a “promotion” bag at $19.90 and the original price was $60+. But for sure, don buy the trolley type. Pls let me know if got any “lubang”. Anyway, yesterday I bought a pair of white shoes for him, it only cost $9.00 and the original price was $22.90 from Bata. I think really worth it. However, my friend advise me not to buy second pair first as she said the school might has sell their own shoes with school logo. So I just wait & see, if really cannot use it just pass to other mothers lor.
For the P1 Orientation, is the parents allow going in with the kid? -
If you're not too fussy, can get bags from Popular called Campro.
Most affordable since it cost half of the normal high end ergonomic
bags. Around 30 plus. Can use Popular membership for the member
discount.
May be a bit big and bulky looking for smaller built
children.
Another higher end but not so bulky that i saw at BUGIS BHG was
the Ergo which was around 80 plus. Can fit all the books nicely cos
max book size was A4 and i like this range cos it looks less bulky
especially on a small petite child like my DD2. Sufficient sponging
as with other Ergo bags.
There was also Hush Puppies also at BUGIS BHG, which has quite
good sponges and support on the spinal area & more the strap areas.
Not that bulky but looks a little longer than the usual Ergo bags.
For schools that cater floor level for P1, you may ask whether the
school allows trolley bags.
Cos depending on different sch
policies, some may allow while others may totally ban trolley bags.
For parents who just anything goes, then any bag will do. Plus
nowadays the children's books (some of them) can be kept in
school when there aren't any work to do or any revision to be
done at home.
Hope this gives you a headstart. -
Dear Buds:

Hi Buds & Anna,
I saw tat Campro bag from Popular not too long ago too
& thot it should be good enuff for my kiddo since he is
not that big nor small and I like it tat its pretty compact.
And thot that those ergonomics bag quite ex but luckily
now the price has dropped so still quite 'affordable'....
Thanks for yr explanation Buds....
Anna, u'v bought shoes already??? i hv not & wonder if
my kiddo's feet will still grow these couple of months still
U know, when I opened the letterbox & saw the letter frm DLS
& read the contents; i finally then heaved a sigh of relief tat
all is really over for us for the P1 registration battle.....
then sighed again coz P1 academic battle will then start soon!!!

No worries, guys. P1 academics very easy.
Go to ChiefKiasu's All About Preparing For
Primary One and also a few articles on
some guidelines of what is usually covered
in P1 curriclum so just what you need for
all the what-you-need-to-know-stuffs..

I passby BATA and saw the promotion then just bought it lor, no matter how still need to buy mah. If can get it cheap, why not?
Have you decided to send your boy to childcare centre or taking care by your maid? i am now headache about the transportation, still have not figure out how to arrange. Anyway, for sure have to put him at before school care at Limbang Centre. I heard that the teacher is quite good, she will make sure the kids finish all the home work and spelling before going to schools.
