2818:
I agreed with MMM. You have just enlightened me that I realised those who had been bullied were all small built classmates. My son in P2 this year and there already have a 'gangster group' form by some girls and boys since last year. Initially I wasn't sure is it beco's of his frame, big size that scared off the bullies but so far he is so good. I am now quite worried for my girl co's she is consider small built and going to P1 next year. We have started to teach her how to handle those 'gangsters' and the childcare had also covered this issue to the kids.
\"Gangster\" group or \"Ah Beng\" group. My kids like to mention that. I personally choose to think it is \"harmless\" since they are only primary kids. Maybe those group of students are rowdier or has more behavioral issue but not to the extent of being a gangster or joining a gang etc...? I thought this would be more of a concern if they are in secondary school. Also, I feel that the way some of these kids behave maybe due to family issues at home though it's not entirely true?
My P3 ds is really on the big side. He looks like a P5 to outsiders... but he is not the tallest in the entire level... he said maybe he is top 10. He used to mix around with kids who has \"behavioural\" issues in class at the beginning of the year. They were seated together at beginning of the year hence friendships were formed. Eg. kids who are poor with homework/ results, talks alot in class and not concentrate when teachers are teaching. Glad the FT put in effort to separate them so we see improvement after that happened.
At our end, we had to \"educate\" him on choice of friends several times. Eg. don't follow your friends blindly. Use your own judgement and brain. I also put an emphasis on his homework quality and results. During term 1, he had the entire school bus waiting for him when he wandered off to play with his friend (never happened before) and I had to \"activate\" FT. He got it big time when he was back home. He also had to do reflection once due to being too talkative in class.... That probably helps. I told him if he does more of that, maybe his compo will improve. Fortunately, things change for the better when they are separated in class seatings.
He was made a class monitor by his FT few months back and was pleased with it. Given his built, I heard from dd that his friends want him to be the King of ah beng  :siao: In any case, I told him that being the monitor and since he is such a big boy, he need to ensure that he keep a lookout for bullying cases and ensure such things do not happen in his class. He shared with me some cases and I told him that he needs to tell the teacher and he has the power and physique to do something about it since they are \"scared\" of him. -
Thanks MMM.
I’m planning ahead, and wonder if there’s time for enrichment on weekdays for ds who’ll be in P3 next year.
Are the Buddhist Studies and Malay classes one after the other, i.e. the students attend, say, Buddhist Studies, after the Malay class ends? Is the Malay class offered from P3 to P6? -

For P3, it is malay class, then they have recess and followed by the buddhist study. Maybe this is to cater for kids who are not attending buddhist study due to their religion. I think malay is only for P3 and P4.Thanks MMM.

Enrichment is possible, just need to find a day where they do not have to stay back. -
Thanks again, MMM.
Yes, it should be possible to have enrichment on weekdays, so that at least Sunday is free for non-academic activities

Hi phtthp, ds hardly had any homework in P1. In P2 this year, he has daily work for Chinese but almost none for the other subjects. Buddhist studies is optional.

Homework is dependent on teachers. My P2 girl has CL homework almost everyday. :yikes:
The Buddhism studies is conducted during the curriculum time for lower primary. However, it is optional to buy the textbook and workbook.

Hi,
My son will be attending Primary 1 in 2012. Looking for private transport to send him back to Bedok Reservoir. The school appointed bus operator is not able to bring him directly into the carpark and the grandparent got to walk a fair bit which is tiring for old folks. Anyone else know of other bus operator that has smaller buses that can come right into the carpark of 602 Bedok Reservoir. Would appreciate getting the contact number to call.
Thanks. -
Not sure if there is such non-school appointed school bus service for MBS but do note that such non-school appointed school bus will not be allowed to enter the school compound and your son will have to alight at the road side and walk into the school himself. The guard is quite strict about vehicles parking by the road side waiting to fetch the kids. Parents who drive to pick their kids have been advised to park their vehicles at the carpark opposite the school.

All the best to everyone’s kids in the coming SA2!
