many thanks for your insight. I think i do need help on mandarin though. I read in the other thread that your kids are in molin. Are they attending the normal class or the compo n oral class?

Hi,
My kids only attend the normal class that seek to cover everything. But it’s only 2 hours a week so there is a limit on how much they can cover (similar situation in school). Eg. I see that the kids do english expression but it’s not as though they do it everyday or I feel regular enough. In molin, they do compo too but it’s not like every week.
During june hols, I sent my P1 to Hans language hol writing program as they happened to have it. He enjoyed the class but in terms of results… no comments as I can’t tell as well just hope he pick up something.
As I was sharing with the rest, Molin usually has a Hypy P1 preparation class. I found it helpful for my son. When he went to P1 this year, hypy was a breeze and his chinese character used to be disastrous (very basic thing he also don’t know!!!). But he has improved significant and I also find that the chinese teachers in MBS doing a effective job. My son can remember alot of stuff that he was being taught in school. Eg. when I test him ting xie the common remarks from him was oh I just learnt this the other day and I know how to write it. It is a breeze for us now as I used to have to make him practise writing inorder to remember the character.
It’s important because they’ve a weekly chinese mini assessment on character and hypy currently. -
Hi, my son’s going to MBS next year too. Glad to know that MBS has effective teaching. I’m planning to send him to Molin for P1 class next year but Molin said the schedule for next year will be ready only in Oct.

Hi CSB,
Which phase did you apply under? Think we should create a poll under MBS but I am not sure how. Dizzyguy, any idea?
Have you consider letting him start in K2 rather than waiting for P1 ???? My kids actually start with Molin from pre-school. Latest is my P2 girl who only started in K2. -
what do they teach in molin for k2? i m also interested.

I’ve checked with MOLIN via email, they replied in broken english though. I replied with several questions but no reply for almost 2 weeks liao. Finally send my kid to Kinderland. -
Can someone share more about school bus arrangement in MBS.
What are the choices we have ?
What are the rates ?
What if my kids have extra classes ?
Payment by month or quaterly or yearly ?
Type/Size of the school bus? Are they new ?
Are there Air-Conditioning ?
Are there assistance aunties in the school bus ? -
Btw, why is it that the p1 children report to school at 2pm on their first day of school?
sorry so many qns. -
BTW, MBS registration is on the 21st October 09
Orientation is on 28th Dec 09.
The above dates, is it for everyone ? -
Hi parents,
I just want to clarify that I like to mention Molin simply because my kids have gone through the molin route and I personally found it effective so far and also prices are very reasonable ($96 per month for 2 hours weekly lesson). They are very on the ball and only rest for 1-2 weeks during school hols then they start lessons again. Note that it is not a MBS designated/ recommended class  I believe other schools such as Tien Hsia/ Han/ Berries/ Jiang, etc... may also be effective but I can't comment as I never try it.
I recall in 2007 PSLE, Molin produced the top 2nd MBS student though there are always talk that their std dropped,etc... but it's also a individual experience depending on kid learning style. Just want to highlight that so that parents have realistic expectations. For instance, my son
For pre-school chinese classes, it is very much on character recognition and hypy (esp in 2nd half). But they learn this through games and fun,etc... There was also alot of performance by the kids. In P1, it gets alot more academic eg the class setup in tables and chair unlike K2 they usually sit on the floor for activities. If parents provide good family support to the kids at home, a child that start in Molin since nursery will be able to recognise alot of primary level words by end K2. This was the case for my mum's friend's dd who studied in TNS, at K2, she can recognise words on her P4's sister books. I am hoping to achieve that with my nursery who started in Molin this year
