      MMM:
      Hi,

The compo book is still out of stock. I went there last friday as my P2 had band CCA. I also took the opportunity to pick up the skirt.

      The queue is manageable.
      Thanks for the info 😄

                Hi there,

My little girl’s going to MBS next year (which is in a week’s time!). No concerns at the moment really. Just crossing my fingers and hoping all goes well. Was at the orientation just now. Teachers seem quite nice and caring. Principal seems to know what she’s talking about. Time will tell, I s’pose.

                  Hi,

Enjoy this week. Life will never be the same again once kids start their formal schooling  Oops don't mean to scare all P1 going parents but that happened to me when my 1st child enters P1. I transform from the \"take it easy\" to the \"highly stressed\" mum. Suddenly I had to worry about SAs which preschool doesn't have. But the consolation is that all of us are here to share and support each other so continue to share your experience.

Yes, I was very impressed with the principal during her orientation speech last year. I was happy that MBS has found focus on what they want to be, a premier SAP school. They have this value for years so I feel that they should \"capitalise\" on it. During my 1st child's orientation, it wasn't as clear. So far, I am quite happy with the teachers. Miss Lim (P1 level mgr) taught my son this year. Look fierce but very nice and approachable lady. Just appeared fierce infront of kids to instil discipline. They are \"scared\" of Miss Lim and will tryto behave well.

Enjoy and do support the teachers and school where possible. Partner with them to make learning for our children better.

                    Hi MMM,

Thanks for the reply :D. Will definitely have to work closely with the teachers.

Would like to help out in the PSG but am working and schedules will definitely clash so am not sure how I'll be able to help.

Actually, thought of something I am concerned about. I am worried about things like bullying, name-calling and the like...

During orientation, my girl saw a kid from her previous preschool (she's now in a different preschool) who made her life really horrible by telling everyone not to be her friend etc...

                      Hi,

Hopefully your girl and the other child is not in the same class.

For the bullying aspect, it happens everywhere and not just in MBS. As parents, we can only teach the kids how to handle bully. Our message to the kids is that they cannot allow people to bully them and neither can they bully others.

Some of the things that worked for us are :
                      * Role play scenarios on how to handle "bully"
I realize that kids at this age are not "intentional bully" and yes, after a while, they do have cliques and also people they don’t fancy. For my P2 girl, she had a classmate (another girl) who called her "names" when she was in P1. More like a intentional mispronunciation of her name and that upset her. We role play on how to handle and then the next thing we know, when that girl did that again, she just told that girl she is so lame and the girl stopped forever.

                      * We tell the kids that when people "disturb" them, keep cool. This is because the stronger their reaction, the more people want to disturb them. We do this at home eg. we tease one of them and they reacted strongly. We told them if they do such thing in school, the friend will disturb them more.

                      * Encourage your child to make friends. Once they make friends, they are more likely to have their own "cliques" and emotional support.

                      * Report the incident to the teacher. My P1 brought yoyo to school as it was the craze. A boy from another class loaned it from him (he is the sociable type). Apparently when he asked for his yoyo, the boy claimed that he has returned and even scratched my boy’s hand. He was teary when he related that to us and we were naturally upset. But this is a learning experience for him, he should learn that he cannot trust any tom, dick or harry and go round loaning his stuff to people he barely know. Also, he need to manage this himself. eg. tell the teacher or learn from experience and be mindful of the kind of people he befriend. Anyway, I heard they are not allowed to bring such stuff to school anymore but yes, he lost his yoyo but I supposed he learnt from it.

                      * This happens to my son again. This time he is the "bully". It happened on the school bus. After awhile, they start to play rowdy games on the bus. So pls remind kids to sit properly in the bus for their own safety. During such rowdy game, he happened to kick another P2 boy. My son is on a big size type (significantly bigger size than the P2 that he kicked). I happened to know the father and he related this to me. When it happened the 2nd time, I insisted that he must sit in front of the bus with the bus uncle. I made it a compulsory thing and got uncle to work with me. Through the entire year, he just sat with uncle and I never hear of such "bullying" again.

Personally, I feel that bullying happens anywhere and everywhere even in our adult world. So it’s a learning exposure for the child to learn how to handle it.
