Maha Bodhi
-
Hi, new parents here whom will be moving in to the new BTO beside the school. I know this topic has been briefly discussed a few times in this thread from 2012 to 2016; but would like to know if there are any newer experiences. Basically we’re christians and would like to confirm few of the things discussed: Non-buddhist (1.) Students are not required to pray/bow down for religious purposes | (2.) Students can be excluded from the class during buddhist studies.
Also, are there recent christian parents who have enrolled in and what are your views on it? And if not, what would you suggest on the alternatives? I’m not much concerned as I believe it can be agreed it is a good school and I believe education is important, but my wife has concerns over the religion aspect of it.
Appreciate any insights and thanks in advance! -

Short answer: there is Geylang Methodist Primary School relatively nearby. Just that it is not a SAP school.

Not sure whether anyone can advise but need some support because as a first time parent, this is really a difficult period. Managed to get my child enrolled under phase 2A at Geylang Methodist already but we would really like to try for Maha Bohdi because it is just opposite our house due to logistic and safety and my child is attending tuition opp the school. The advice we got was to try for Alumni at Geylang Methodist Pri first then withdraw once we see the vacancy result at Phase 2C, we have to withdraw from GMPS. Does anyone know how to withdraw and how fast it will take? Do you think our chance of getting in at Phase 2C is high?

If you withdraw from Geylang Methodist primary & try balloting your luck at MBS less than 1 km for SC, your chance of entering naturally will depend on your own luck, during actual balloting. You got to ask yourself honestly, can you bear this type of risk ?
How much risk, to bear ?
on the last day of Phase 2C, find out
- how many vacancies are left for SC, less than 1 km ?
And
- how many K2 candidates are competition, fighting for these balloting seats, under 1 km for SC -

First thing first, bad advice you had received. There really isn’t a need to apply at GMPS if you have no interest in the school. Even if you have interest in the school, You can apply at Phase 2C and still get in comfortably. Balloting for GMPS, if any, would be for PR only. Since you have already applied, you will need to take the extra step of withdrawing from the school. I will suggest you do it on day 1 of Phase 2C.

As for Maha Bodhi, chances are quite reasonable. Most of the time, it ballots for SC between 1 to 2km. Even if it ballots for SC < 1km, there should be at least 55 places. Considering the catchment area, I doubt there will be more than 70 eligible SC living with 1km.
A thing to note, you may not be able to gauge or know the number of SC < 1km as MOE doesn’t release such data. You will have to go in blind but as per above, your chances should be reasonable. -
Hi, just checking if anyone has managed to get into maha bodhi at this phase.

Please use One Map School Query. MOE doesn’t recognize 1.5km.
