I'm getting restless about getting all the necessary stuff for my DD1 for P1... Nov 13 orientation feels so far away and in the meantime nothing to start with...
So i'm wondering,
1. How many pairs of uniform / PE attire did you buy for your child?
2. How many pairs of shoe? Any restrictions?
3. School bag - How big? Which is reliable?
4. Start time and end time for school? Recess time?
5. How much pocket money?
etc...etc...   -

1) We bought 2 pairs each for my dd. Buy slightly larger size clothes as kids grow very fast.
2) We have only a pair of school shoes but 2-3 pairs of socks - very smelly if you dont wash daily.
3) We use something like a haversack. Some kids use something like a travelling bag with a handle; make sure your boy can carry the big bag up and down the staircase. Outside the school, you may have a maid or a parent to help. Once in the school, the kid has to settle himself.
4) Read the student's handbook or find out during the Orientation. For the lower primary, I think the kids will be in the school around 12.30pm onwards. If your kid is in BASC, the staff will know the timings. The school is dismissed around 6.30pm. Please re-confirm.
5) If you pack snacks and bread for his recess, you can give little or no money. The coins given will likely to be spent on his \"favourite\" items such as junk food, stickers etc.... Anyway, give him about $1 plus packed snack/food and see how he manages this pocket $$. -

1) My intention is to wash them daily.. but means gotta iron mid week la...
2) Socks I also want DD to change daily. How often do they have PE @ P1? By mid week, the shoe still look decently white?
I suspect my gal may have brown shoes by Wed.. she has this weird habit of stepping on herself sometimes..
3) My DDs are super small size.. dunno how she is going to carry her bag by herself.. she will have to learn...
BTW, P1 classes all at ground floor / need to climb stairs?
5) Okay noted. $1..
What about the rest of you? -
RRMummy,
I think there will be probably 2 or 3 times of PE per week. During those days, the kid wears PE attire and you can leave the school attire at home. We wash her PE attire when she returns home (with PE that day). In fact, it is the PE shirt that is sweaty; the shorts is still ok LAH!
You dont really have to wash the school attire at the end of each day of wearing.
When your girl arrives the school on the first day of school, she will be "welcomed" by the prefects (possibly 1 or 2 prefects to each new p1 kid). The prefects MAY help you with your BIG school bag!
During the recess, there will be prefects helping the new p1 kid too.
This special "care" is available during the first 3 days of school. -

1. 2 pairs each is enough. Plus they will need to buy other T shirts for enrichment classes. Try and buy more name tags during your orientations.I'm getting restless about getting all the necessary stuff for my DD1 for P1... Cos you can get Uniform easily from Shanghai tailor, but name tags are rather troublesome.
2. 2 pairs of shoes is good. For redundancy purpose
3. Typical one will do. Boxy type type preferred as they can stand by their own.
5. Even if you pack her lunch, slip a $2 note in her bag and tell her it is for emergency. Cos sometime what if she drops her lunch on the floor...?
6. Pack a small plastic bag in her bag. Incase she soiled her underwear. -

Yes, all starts at P1
At leats 7-8 tags
It is not things that scare her. You know kids, once they are in groups and start playing, they forget their surnames. So they will 'lun' and don't go to toilet. In the end....
