Yes, it's confirmed. I just called the office. Wah lao, this is major!! I have to pray super hard if his piano teacher has other slots.

Amazing they can do this on a whim and without telling parents. very very very miffed now.

hquek, where's yr child learning her piano? i'm actually looking for one for my son.

hi momto2, my kid is learning from yamaha (so more rigid, cannot suka suka change timing). I'm also looking for another teacher now that Fridays are out. :gloomy:

oh by the way. there was yet another miscomm from general office. Last week, I called them up regarding what to bring on first day. Distinctly heard nonid to bring textbooks etc. Now DS tells me I should have packed his textbooks inside. But twas okay - lesson learnt for next year.

And I just received a info sheet on what books to bring and when, plus what to do with the exercise books. This part I like. Very clear and reassuring.

          Happy New Year…

It seems School has kicked in Changes yet their notification mechanism is not catching up … Parents, please list your observations and suggestions.

          I will start…

          List
          1. School to issue Letter to parent on Wednesday. but my DS received on Tuesday… (Suggestion: I asked for consistency).

We can discuss the above in our next PSG internal discussion (this is a meeting prior to a Quarterly meeting with School). Interested parents, you are welcome to attend our meeting too. Every first Thursday of the Month (begining Feb 2012).

            2. School should inform if there are any traffic changes - via website(?) for eg. Eg, now cars are not allowed in May road in mornings due to roadworks; but there was no prior information and the only one to tell us is a brave teacher who has to use his body to block. A bit dangerous, no?
            3. (Not sure if rehash from point 1, feel free to edit) School should inform parents at least one month ahead for any changes in end of school day. Giving 4 days of notice is NOT enough for parents to make changes to external commitments.

HWS Parents, please make yourself heard - personally I find it very strange that I’m jumping up and down and it’s all quiet in this thread. I may be a minority who has been adversely affected, and most others will just be fine with the change.

I recognise that I should follow what the school has set. But certainly, I don’t agree on such short notice - this is my only gripe (change time, I’m fine). I’m still scrambling around like a headless chicken. not happy at all.

So far,and I said thus far(not sure in the future though, ha) I have no issues with the sch. For P1 parents, we were informed of the changes during the orientation ie the timing for dismissal on Fridays is 1.05pm. Information list such as what to bring etc was issued thru the children ytd. So far so good.

Only thing bad is the poor communication among the staff and teachers as they seemed to be clueless of the changes. And it will be good if parents of p1 kids are able to stay ard during recess time to get a feel of what their kids r doing. 😄

hquek, i'm looking for private teachers now, cos schools timings are rigid, difficult to make changes.

as a P1 parent, i'll prefer there's a day at least which we can join our kids in the school to know what's going on. saw on news yesterday but didnt take note which sch is that, that daddys actually join their kids for recess, this is quite interesting. maybe PSG can bring in the idea 🙂

for communication wise, we are given letters with all the necessary info, so at this point there's no issue, maybe as we go along, we'll probably hv more inputs on improvement. on e change of time for fri, maybe e sch can indicate in e letter reasons for making e changes.

It’s the school’s right to make any changes to dismissal time, I recognise. But it’s very strange when they deem fit to only inform P1 parents, and not the rest of the school.

                  But thanks for the inputs.

Parents what do you think about grouping P1 classes by month of birth?

I think the month of birth does impact the learning curve. Although it will even out later, I think it is best to bridge the gap in P1 so that all will be confident learners later on without affecting self-esteem or spending more time to catch-up.

As for the timing thing. Although during the P1 orientation there was mention of the arrival and dismissal timing but the information is different from the printed material. So there’s confusion for me.

The formal note about the arrival and dismissal timing for the first 2 week was given on the 2nd day of school. It would be better if it was given during Orientation day, so that I would not miss out on the early dismissal time for the first day. Thanks

Is time-table given for the P1s yet? My dd has not received any time table. Yet, she told me her lessons offically starts this Mon.

On the dismissal time, all level parents didn’t know about it until jan 2012, so P1 parents had a head start. Anyway, for me, that is a past issue, I’m only looking forward.

My p2 hasn’t got his timetable, but he has submitted his worksheets and exercise books. Teachers should have enough to work on. Just remember to pack their textbooks, plus a storybook can already.
