SAHM_TAN:
Me clueless like sahm_tan, anyway I'm more worried about MY kids' psle results (in years to come) than past cohort's...remember past performance is not indicative of future performancevaliant88:
Hi anyone know the Top and average PSLE results for Hongwen for the past few years? Can share?
Only a few know  and I'm not one of them.
All I know is the their results are above national percentage.

Agree with what sahm_tan say again. I do like this school. In truth, before ds1 went in, I was in 2 hearts if this IS the right place to be.
DS1 now in P2. After a year in, I’m grateful and happy at where he is now. His teachers don’t load too much homework so I also dun get stressed. He gets surprise mini tests which is just fine becos I also dunno what to go through with him. If I know more, figure the only result will be both of us get stressed.
I like there are Chinese cultural stuff they do within curriculum time. Learning Chinese classical instruments, calligraphy etc are part of his regular classes. He has some immersion and at least now knows what such is about.
Academic wise, of course I am concerned. But the road is long ahead. No point performing brilliantly for the first two years and then get burnt out totally when he goes on. I’m learning not to focus on marks but on cultivating lifelong learning (still wip). Also I’m concerned if my child will be good academically but lose his moral compass like those we read about in the papers. This what I believe the school works towards also.
HWS is also a school that focus on helping the weaker kids. Contrary to what others tell me, I hear a lot more help for weaker students like the stretch program, lsp where weaker students are given close attention and more time with teachers in subjects they can either do better in or where they are weak. Contrary, for stronger kids, it is like own time own target. This focus to help the weaker is certainly something I appreciate whether or not my child is selected and thus benefit from. Perhaps I haven’t been through the whole round, and may not know the whole story, will keep updating once ds1 reaches p6.
On which school to select. I’m lucky in that we stay quite near HWS so DS get more snooze time. It is hard to choose if one can apply via 2a but stay a bit far. Remember there may be days when the child has to stay back, so logistics would have to be considered. Unfortunately, if public transport is the only means of transport, I feel the school is sited a bit far from mrt station…took me a good 15-20 min to walk there (and no heavy school bag to carry when I did try). -
Overall no regrets about HWS. DS2 will be joining his big bro there next year. Will be another challenge as both kids are quite different, I’m hoping he will get different teachers from ds1 (their teachers follow them p1 and p2) so there won’t be any comparison.

Thanks all for your kind reply. I guess I was considering the other nearby options like bendemeer and cedar I the results is similar and hongwen requires balloting then I am not sure if taking the plunge is worth it.

I only have this one kid in pri sch so cant compare. I would say the advt of HWS (ie sap school) vs mainstream school is that there are Chinese cultural immersion activities. I see a lot of lower p kids talking in English but the upper pri ones seem very comfy in Chinese. Hoping my DS can get there eventually. Despite all my efforts, they are still like kantan kids…a bit lopsided.

Hi valiant88,

If you live < 1 km can monitor the situation. If there's a need for balloting you can decide if you wish to try. If yes, have a back up school in case you are not successful.
The 2 schools that you mentioned, based on historical trends, there are vacancies under P2C supp. But they had experienced balloting for > 2km under P2C supp before. Best to monitor the number of applicants for the 3 schools and make your decision.
All the best. -

of coz ur post on what u think of HW helps. Just to check with you, for the Before-n-after-school-service in HW itself, u mentioned there is balloting if it is over-subscribed? Is the balloting an annual thing? Or those who are in, will be in for the next 6yrs unless their parents withdraw them? <- asking coz imaging the logistics stress some working parents will have each yr.
