As HW is morning session, so only after-school care. There is limited slots and depending on the space left, they will allow P1 to ballot. If unable to get through the ballot, then will have to get outside after school service. Yes, those who are in will be there for 6 years.SAHM_Tan
of coz ur post on what u think of HW helps. Just to check with you, for the Before-n-after-school-service in HW itself, u mentioned there is balloting if it is over-subscribed? Is the balloting an annual thing? Or those who are in, will be in for the next 6yrs unless their parents withdraw them? <- asking coz imaging the logistics stress some working parents will have each yr. -

:goodpost:Good luck to all parents undergoing 2B balloting tomorrow. I'm still feeling amazed as this is like the first time I'm aware of that balloting is required for 2B in HWS.
Parents who fail pls do not despair, but do plan carefully becos 2C HWS is traditionally hot. But in the worst case scenario, no matter, your child will flourish becos of YOU, not becos of whatever school they go in. -
my girl got IN yah!!! thru the balloting

Failed balloting 2c yest. heard from principal about waiting list and also transfer during P3. Can anyone share with us how to go abt it?
1. wait list:
a)when shall we register it?immediately or after phase 3 over.Dont think have chance in phase 2c as is 1-2km.
b)via form or need to go down personally?
c)who to follow up with ?
d) any successful case so far?
2.Transfer during P2 before P3
a) again, when to wait list
b) why there is extra vacancy during P3?
Thx for sharing; really "lost" after balloting out -

You should register on the waitlist immediately. Suggest to contact the school to find out how to place your child's name on the waitlist.Failed balloting 2c yest. heard from principal about waiting list and also transfer during P3. Can anyone share with us how to go abt it?

Share with you my fren's case who registered in another school. He PVed but was unsuccessful in P2B. He request to be placed on waitlist. In P2C he registered in another school. Then before P1 orientation started he rec'd notification that there was vacancy for him. So he withdrawn and registered with the first school that he wanted.
There are many possibilities why there could be vacancies later on.
1) overseas posting so parents applied for leave of absence.
2) A student transferred to the parents' preferred school because there's a vacancy.
4) Some time in Term 3 of P3, there's GEP testing and selection. Students who are selected to attend GEP will also most likely transfer to schools with GEP centre. Thus, resulting in vacancies. But not sure for this case, the school will accept transfer in P3 or P4.

I’m registering my DD for 2c. I’m within 1km. But worried about balloting. Not sure to choose HWS or go St Margarets straight as there’s 100 vacancies. Any advice?

There have been balloting for smps for >2km for the past few yrs. If you do not wish to experience balloting and within 2km and SC, then can consider smps over hws. If your child is SC and you live > 2km, still can monitor the applicant breakdown at smps, it might still be to your advantage.
If both schools require balloting for you, then you have to decide to try balloting or another school.
Best to monitor the number of applicants in both school and decide and to have another back-up school, just in case.

Hi Nixtang,
Since you are within 1km, chances are high but you probably will still need to ballot (per past history). I really don’t know why the stats this year is so competitive.
Guess other factors you will have to consider are that :
1. SMPS has affiliation so psle may not be as stressed.
2. distance from your place - how convenient to go to & fro (not just numbers but also the actual logistics).
3. do you have a ds going to school in future.
Academic wise I understand both are about the same. The one edge I see hws has is that it’s chinese-centric, so if you are keen on inculcating chinese culture in your child, hws will be the better place.
a lot of choices and more nailbiting (a friend got in this week via balloting in 2B - I can’t imagine the stress). All the best to you and your child!
