For parents who r interested to place their kids in NAPS Student Care, I just called the PIC and was told no more vacancies for next yr. Have to waitlist and to do that, you'll hv to go down in person to fill up the form.


Sigh... now i have problem of finding a suitable student care for my DD...

Besides reading , what other things our kids will be asked ?

Hi I think all they test is reading of very simple words. Couldn't get my son to tell me much other than the words were very simple like \"the\" \"he\" etc.

So nothing to worry about - I hear that it is merely to identify those kids who really cannot read perhaps those who do not attend kindy and give them support through the Learning Supporting Programme.

There is juzkids at the town council just opp the sch. Or there is kinderland stidentcare at parkway central.

My DS will be for 2014 P1 intake and planning for TKPS or Ngee Ann.
Both of these come within 1km of my house in marine Drive.

Any parent has any recommendation? Which is better in terms of academic areas, disclipine, character development?

Hi Ran1977, I have 2 children in NAPS and a close friend’s DC is in TKPS. My understanding is that TKPS has a very structured platform in place (eg students are supervised during the interval between school end and CCA start to ensure they complete their homework, extra classes conducted for students who miss classes due to competitions training, teachers enforce discipline to ensure neat handwriting, homework handed in on a timely manner, weaker students identified and mentored by 2 stronger students per weak student, etc). NAPS just had a change of principal and vice principals and they are making making many positive changes which should be experienced duly.

Can anyone share with me experience with allied educators at Tanjong katong Primary School and Ngee Ann Primary? Are these schools supportive when dealing with children with special needs such as mild case of ADHD?

Can advise P1 do they need to carry alot of sch books to sch? Is it like 1 texbk per subject? Exercise books for writing? Or ??

I wanna buy his sch bag, but dun noe hw big it shd be. I dun wanna get too big cos will strain his back.

DD is in P1 and her school bag is super heavy!
she claimed she pack her bag daily but when i help her, still it is like carrying rocks in a bag

it is best to buy a bag that is durable, else it sure give way in a month

My DS is in P1. Actually the school keeps the workbooks in school. The kids only bring the textbooks for Maths and Chinese daily to school. On days where there is social studies or music or health education, they bring those textbooks. The exercise book for Tingxie is brought back once a week for parents’ signature. Don’t recall any other exercise books - mainly they do worksheets and file them in school and they bring the files once in a while. So the school does what it can do reduce the number of books to be brought on a daily basis.

Having said that, the bag does get heavy when the kids pack in water bottle, lunch box, books for silent reading or bring back books from school library or bring art materials etc.

Also just a tip, it is useful to get a bag big enough to fit an A4 size folder. The school issues many circulars/letters etc weekly to parents and the kids can just pop the pieces of paper into the A4 folder and they need not worry about losing them or crumpling them.
