Hi everyone, I just joined this big family - EPPS. Yesterday I brought my boy to Elias Park Primary school for P1 Orientation. Overall impression is pretty good except for bring back home a worry - The form teacher looks not that friendly and not that patient. I hope my impresson is wrong and I understand first impression not so good doesn’t mean that she is not a warm-hearted teacher. However, I am pretty sure you can understand my worry and my feeling especially when I saw form teacher from other class was so patiently explaining to the parents this and that while ours seems not.

On one hand the form teacher’s attitude made me feel bad, on the other hand something upsets my boy is when he found out he was separated with some of his k2 friends in different classes. That makes me really feel like transferring him to another class. I wonder if as a parent we are allowed to do so and what will be the proper way to do this.

Appreciate if someone could offer me help in any way that I can get to know the teacher better. Can we get the form teacher’s profile from EPPS’ website? I wish that I just had a wrong impression and transferring class to me is not a preferred option.

eh…i dunno if u can request to change classes… but think ur kid has to learn to adapt…when my boy was in p1…he is alone…cos the rest of his k2 classmates went to other schs…

              PowerPuff Mum:
There will be an SA2 exam for P2. This is an important exam cos they will stream the kids accordingly for P3. I believe it's based on total score for Eng, Maths and MT, therefore the top 20 % will be placed in the first 2 classes Courage and Diligence. For MT, the students will be streamed according to ability so they may end up in different form classes and MT classes.

The kids in Courage and Diligence willl be escalarated and given worksheets and projects which are more challenging. They are also encouraged to participate in various competitions. The rest of the classes will be formed based on child's strength ie Maths or English proficiency.

If you think abt it, this is very practical cos higher ability students should be given the opportunity to shine while the rest of the students will still be taught according to their capability. They constantly look out for talents across the board not just academics and give students an opportunity to showcase their abilities and talents.. that's what special abt EPPS.

Parents shouldn't be concerned abt not being in top 2 classes as the students will continue to be streamed every year depending on their overall results and performance. I have seen students from Loyalty and Kindness who get promoted to Courage and Diligence. Between these 2 classes, there is a mix of the top 20% so they are of equal standing.
              Powerpuff Mom.....

May I know, how many class are there for Pri 3 in EPPS?
According to your notes, The first 2 class would be Courage and Diligence, Next would be Loyalty and Kindness, And where would be the other class be placed in term of performance. Thanks in advance. Regards.

You are right. It will go in that order. I believe there are 7 classes for P3 as the classes will be 40 students per class as compared to P1 and P2 @30 students per class. The other classes will also be group according to ability so that it is easier for teacher to manage the students accordingly.

Sorry, I've not bn here lately hence the late reply. You shouldn't judge the teacher when you hardly had any interaction with her. You should give it a chance to develop. If you still have problems till now..that's 6 mths has passed..then you should bring up your concerns to the principal. That's the right way to do it. They are very open to talk to you with regards to any matter concerning your child.

I don't recommend asking for transfer of class. cos after all, your child need to adapt to new situation and make new friends. You need to let yr child manage this with yr close supervision of cos. Work with the teacher closely and if its still a problem ..talk to the teacher abt how u can work with the teacher to help this transition for your child.

                        Hi EPPS mommies

Anyone can share more input on the school… are the teacher commited, are the programs good and if theres anything more I need to know abt EPPS apart frm the PSG please do advise…

Most likely my DS will be joining the sch next year…We had no choice its kind of not our ‘plan’ school. We were unsuccessful to get to the 2 schs we wanted. We also didnt want DS to travel out of Pasir Ris so EPPS is next on list. I wanna knw hw they performed acadamically and physically. There arent much info and I do not knw anyone who has kids in the school so inputs will be greatly appreciated.
                        TIA.
