              counterfeit.pi:
Warning to all parents, I were checking with a few other parents...so far confirmed that all prizes were counterfeit.

The stickers book received were very poor quality and strong rubber smell.

May I know what are the prizes for? Is it given during the prize giving ceremony on 14 November? Sorry to say this, but what is the motive of bringing this issue here when you could write to the school about it? I believe in giving feedback to the school directly on all issues, and I have been doing so for the past 3 years since my elder gal was enrolled in Fernvale Primary school.

My younger son received a prize for improvement in his grades but he was unable to attend the prize giving ceremony on 14 Nov as he was sick. I collected his gift on his behalf after the ceremony, and I was surprised that it was a $15 Popular gift voucher.

From the pictures, the gifts seems to be from the Etutor program and not from Fernvale Primary school, if you notice there is a Etutor sticker on the prize. It seems to be prizes given for solving Chinese quizzes.

I don’t think CASE will take up such cases, as it is not a purchase. The prizes were used to motivate kids to do the quizzes to improve their Chinese. I think as a parent, we should teach our kids that the prizes act as a motivator and learning the Chinese language is more important than redeeming the prizes.

I know about this program from my kids but they didn’t mention about redeeming prizes by answering the quizzes. So I was surprised when you post abt this. You shld bring it up to the vendor than in this thread. Maybe you should start a new thread about this topic as I feel it is not relevant to Fernvale Primary School.

Language is an important skill. What about values ? The vendor was showing wrong values.

We should not tell children that this is minor as counterfeit is as good as cheating. Written to vendor several times, but no replied.

Vendor’s website, Fernvale Pri students consist of almost 70%.

Which values are you talking about? Values are taught to the kids by parents, not the vendor. Seriously, if u did not mention about this gift redemption, I have long forgotten about this. I just remembered that my kids did mention about the gift redemption once but I do not place much emphasis about it. I do not want my kids to spend too much time on the computer.

I prefer them to read Chinese books to brush up their language. As I do not let them play the quizzes often, they also stop mentioning about redemption of gifts, or bug me to let them play the quizzes. They also forget about the redemption of gifts as time passes.

By the way, you keep mentioning counterfeit prizes. Why do you even expect the vendor to give the "real" Sanrio products? A lot of such products are sold in shops or online at lower prices, and it is very common in Singapore. The real Sanrio items sold in departmental store are so much more expensive.

First of all, a child would not know what is the real Sanrio products unless the parents teaches them. However, u are placing so much emphasis on the gifts, you were unhappy that most of the gifts were taken down.

If the quizzes were played by the kids with the goal to improve the language and not on the redemption of the gifts, they would not feel cheated. They would not place so much emphasis on the redemption of gifts.

If we as parents do not place much emphasis on the redemption of gifts, the kids would do the same.

I do not understand why the etutor programme have redemption of gifts which is not healthy for learning Chinese, as the kids would be focused on accumulating points and redeeming gifts. Perhaps, they want more students to use their programme and show to the schools that their programme is good.

I find the real motive of the etutor programme for redemption of gifts is to get as many students to log on to their website and play the quizzes. Maybe they want to show to MOE that their programme is good, so that MOE can continue to use their services.

If u think such redemption of gifts in an online learning programme is not healthy for the kids, you can feedback to Fernvale Primary school or MOE. You can encourage like minded parents to do the same and feedback as well. MOE may change their mind on engaging their services, if there is a lot of feedback on this issue.

However, if u were to complain on the issue on vendor "cheating" and taking down the gifts which disappointed the kids. It will not be an issue to MOE but an issue to u only.

Frankly speaking, if parents do not allow their children to use the etutor programme frequently in the first place, the number of students using their programme would be low and probably MOE may not use their services in future.
