Hi, my hubby and I are keen to enrol our girl in Nan Chiau. But recently, heard from a friend that her child whom studies in the school feels stressed by the teachers and is unhappy. Sometimes, he even refuses to attend school. My friend told me she feels the teachers only emphasise on academic results and not the character development of the children.

I would like to hear more feedback from parents with kids studying in the school? Do your kids have difficulties coping with the schoolwork? Is tuition necessary? Do they enjoy going to school and find learning enjoyable rather than stressing?
I think this is very subjective. Is up to individual kids and parents how they assist or communicate with the kids.
There are parents who also complaint that their schools do not give enough homework. Very free... even when is upper primary.
so what is good for your kids? Only the parents can answer this.
NCPS is a very IT school. They have alot of IT gadgets as you might have read in the paper. This is something the kids enjoy but not all parents like the idea as afraid the kids damage it and have to pay.
So this is something very subjective as well.

It is all depends on your budget & whether the parents are attending the party too. I did see people giving ang pow when they don't know what to get or do not have time to get a present.

Is your friend's kid in the top class of upper primary? The education system has been changed & you have to be prepared to be involved in your kid's education when she goes to Pri 1. I would say this school standard is rather high compare to most of the Sengkang pri schools. To me, Singapore education system is already stressful. If you are looking for a less stressful environment, try North Vista Pri School.

Whether tuition is necessary is very subjective. It is all depend on your kid's performance & the parents' expectation from the kid. I did not send my P1 girl to tuition & most probably do so when she goes to P3. My P6 boy is taking PSLE this year & he is in the top class. School has higher expectation from top classes , they are given more challenging worksheets & workbooks.

How do you find the standard of P6 Prelim papers? Are they easy or tough papers?

Hi miffy-ang, you’re welcome. Overall, NCPS is a good school with good programmes. It is a SHHK’s school & it’s P6 students sit for the same Prelim papers as Tao Nan & Ai Tong. It is the most popular school in Sengkang. You need to stay within 1 km to be qualified for the phase 2C balloting or to become a PV. Your friend has to be more involved in her kid’s education. She needs to communicate with her child & be aware of her kid’s progress in school. Maybe her kid’s need her attention & she needs to find time to coach her kid. Parent and teacher communication is also very important.
