Nan Chiau Primary

VJA:
I called the school and confirmed I'm considered old girl, the staff asked if I studied in the old campus (maybe only to ex pupil studied at Kim Yam Rd). And if I join the lifetime Alumni member (ex Man Chiau Girls or High) , my child can get in as P2A1!
Nan chiah high school? there is no affiliation btw NCPS and High school.
suggest you to check with NCPS before considering further.. -

VJA, as long as parents are old girls from Nan Chiau High school before they split into primary and secondary, they are eligible to register in p2A for the primary school. If you look into Nan chiau history, the primary and secondary section used to be together under one name Nan Chiau high School.thebusybee:
I know this sounds silly....
Any parents here send your child to NCPS from West area- Bkt Merah/Queensway? How long is the school bus journey? Will P1 & P2 still in afternoon session come 2014?
I just found out I'm consider old girl as I went to Nan Chiau High School. Considering it is a good school since my time in the 80s, DH and I are keen in registering DS next year.
Hence I'm collecting info. from parents here. Thank you

busybee but then all schools in Singapore will be all in morning session by 2016. Suspect most schools will start morning session come 2014 or 2015 and you will see now most schools are doing the upgrading of additional or existing blockslarkspur,
Thanks for the info. Since it'll be morning session, NCPS is def out for us unless we have plan to shift there. But DS is not a morning person so likely I will look for PM session shool for a start. -

I heard that there will be transition for Nan Chiau from dual session to single starting from mid 2013. As I will be moving out from Seng Kang to Hougang around mid 2013, my girl who is P1 in this yy will be affected. Spoken to school bus operator regarding my new place, she mentioned that the pick up from Hougang will be around 6am and if I live further down in Hougang area, then the pick up time will be earlier.
Hi, what i understand is come 2014, all will be in morning session.Frankly speaking you might want to think of the journey. I stay opp to Nan chiau primary and i am working at bukit merah area and that MRT cum bus journey is about 1 hour 15 minutes. If by taxis or car excluding traffic jam, journey about 45 minutes. Since your child will be in morning session come 2014, so you should expect your child to catch school bus around 4 ++ to 5 am every morning.thebusybee:

Hi parents of ncps,
Just a piece of news to share…
STTA just had their opening of their new training centre in Hougang. The coach is planning to set up a table tennis school team in nan chiau. They have started the process with the school but hope to recruit nan chiau’s students to start training with them to speed up the process. They need at least 7 to form a team.
Training is 3 times a week at Blk 810 Hougang Central #02-216 (near Hougang Mall)
If your kids are still looking for a CCA, may be worth considering as they would have a high chance of being in the school team. If you are interested, pm me and I will pass you the coach’s number. My 2 kids are currently attending training there. -

Yes, You can apply under phase 2B if you are an old girl of Nan Chiau High. But I still think the school is too far for your son to travel to Nan Chiau & I don't think the school bus operator will pick him up from your home either. Unless you want to consider moving to Sengkang or somewhere not too far from Sengkang. Alternative, your hubby or yourself is able to drive your son to school every morning. By the time your son goes to P3, he has to stay back for supplementary lessons till 3pm or later. You will need to pick him up or let him goes to a students care centre. By 2014, Nan Chiau will become single session school.I know this sounds silly....

You don't have to join lifetime Alumni member, no balloting for phase 2B so far. Yes, It is only for ex pupil studied at Kim Yam Road. At that time, still do not have NCPS.

Hi, my hubby and I are keen to enrol our girl in Nan Chiau. But recently, heard from a friend that her child whom studies in the school feels stressed by the teachers and is unhappy. Sometimes, he even refuses to attend school. My friend told me she feels the teachers only emphasise on academic results and not the character development of the children.
I would like to hear more feedback from parents with kids studying in the school? Do your kids have difficulties coping with the schoolwork? Is tuition necessary? Do they enjoy going to school and find learning enjoyable rather than stressing?
Hi
I personally feel that the P6 are more stressed than other levels . But my girl still enjoy going to Sch . Even PSLE coming this week , school still give supplementary class till 4pm . Told her to study at home and relax but she insist of going . Just wonder what medicine the school had given her .
My younger girl enjoy too . She learned a lot of Chinese culture , speech and drama etc.
It therefore depends on individual . Let them have fun but of course we must also look out for their school works too . -

My boy is in P6 too. He has supplementary till 5.30pm on Mon & Tue for last week & this week. Tomorrow is PSLE & there is supplementary lesson on Fri till 3.30pm. All schools push their P6 kids, not just NCPS.miffy_ang:
