Teacher looks for the potential, whether can be trained to excel in this area. Last year, they were a topic during the cca and were asked to present their case to the teacher.

Thanks ! Any idea about band ? Does it have violin position ? I saw violin in PTA but not sure if violin learner can go into the band … How is the quality of the PTA violin program ? My child was learning from a private teacher and planning to transfer. Now at ABRSM grade 3-4 level. Thanks.

Band is not same as symphony orchestra and does not have violins. PTA violin classes are paid classes, but can be considered as a CCA in Rosyth. Sometimes they perform at school events.

                Hi,

I’m contemplating putting my child into Rosyth as his dad used to study there. I’m a bit hesitant at the moment as:
                1) The sch is a bit far from where I live in Punggol, which means my child needs to wake up really early.
                2) I’m not sure if he can cope in a "top school".

                Would like to know:

                1) Is Rosyth a pressure cooker or are the lower primary years relatively carefree and relaxed?
                2) How are the academic staff? I don’t have a good first impression of the school as everytime I call or email them, I get very curt replies. I seem to get greater customer service when I enquire with Holy Innocent and other neighbourhood schools. Hence, I have the perception that the people in the school view themselves as very "elite".
                3) Is the school very academically driven or do they develop the child to be an all rounder?
                4) For those who stay in Punggol/ Sengkang, how long is the drive to school in the morning, and if you put your kid in school bus, does he/ she have to wake up very early since he/ she is likely to be the first passenger?
                5) For those of you who put your children in Pro Teach, any feedback on the after school care?
                6) Anybody knows if Rosyth will be single session by 2015?

                Tks!

Hi, I have a friend who stays in Sengkang and her dd is in Rosyth. She takes the school bus. Her daddy used to study in Rosyth. Rosyth is a highly sought after school and it is a great school. I know of a pupil who was quite weak in her kindy days and after she has private tuition in lower primary, her grades improve. Don't waste the golden chance. Enrol your child in Rosyth is a good bet. :celebrate:

                    Hi sembgal,

Tks for the feedback. I’m contemplating between Rosyth and Holy Innocent. I prefer the latter as it’s in between my house and my IL’s - just 10 mins drive from home and 5 mins drive from my IL’s. I have a younger one in pre school still and her school is opp my IL’s place. So makes sense logistically to send my #1 to Holy Innocent. However, I know my chances are higher in Rosyth since daddy is alumni. How early does your friend’s child take the school bus? I’m also worried my #1 will not have enough sleep.

You also mentioned your friend’s child improved grades after tuition. You mean Rosyth doesn’t do much teaching and relies on parents to send their kids for tuition for grades to be gd?

                      Hi!

Not true that must go tuition to hv good grades. My girl with no tuition breezed thru her 3 years n still managed to get 90's for all her subjs. Plus I dun coach or give her a lot of work at home too.. Basically she only nd to pay attention in class n do sch hw.
                      Cheers!

Hi, the one staying Sengkang has to board the bus at 6 something, couldn't remember the exact timing, and the other one who had tuition is not the bright type. There are 2 types of children in Rosyth, very smart and not so smart. The not so smart one will have to rely on tuition to keep up with the smart ones. When parents go all out to register their children in Roysth, they don't take into consideration if their children are smart or not. Why? Because all parents think their own children are smart. Then when the children can get in successfully, they will find their own ways, be it private tuition or enrichment centres to get their children to buck up.

Even the top student of Rosyth who top the whole cohort in PSLE a few years back, also goes for tuition in enrichment centres.

Any amount of extra homework given at home, even when the child does not receive any form of tuition or coaching, the practice that comes with doing the extra homework will help the child's grades improve.
