As regard to the single-session, the school has not given any committed timeline to what I know. There will be no change to the school compound to achieve single-session, which means the school does not have to move to any temporary holding site to achieve this. The school cuts down the P1 intake numbers in the past few years to ensure sufficient space to transit to single-session.Arranged for DD and DS to take sch bus this year, but both single trips, so it's very ex... while return trip costs $100, single trip is only $10 cheaper, so it's $180 for us every month...
Heard that it will be single-session next year. Not sure whether it's true...
DS seems to be ok with sch so far. He even called his best friend from kindergarten 2 days after sch started, and chatted happily... in contrast, DD who is in P3 this year has never called any friends on the phone before...
As the year gets closer to the deadline set by MOE for all schools to go single-session, the probability of YZPS to go single-session gets higher. -
The thing is, true to what the school stated, after this first week of bringing most books to school, they are kept there and the daily items the pupils need to bring to school are kept minimal. My girl hardly had homework last year in P1, except for the occasional weekend homework. It had been a very happy year of learning for her at school.

Hi dragonflow, thank you for your reply.
I have the same list as you for Day 2 (Wed) and Day 3 (Thur). My gal Chinese books were also collected on Thur but I did not put in so she gave on Fri. I think the teacher told them verbally and she didn’t tell me. Yesterday, she came back and said she still owe one Chinese book to the teacher. When I ask her which book she can’t answer me so I guess it’s the written exercise book you mentioned above.
Also, thank you for highlighting on the school attire. Otherwise, my husband plan to go to school on Mon morning to find out. -
By the way, pls make sure you ds or dd does not give, exchange or lend money to others. A primary 1 boy approach my ds to change his 20cents for my ds $1 !
-
Thanks for sharing. At their age they still do not know the value of money. They probably thought it’s like exchanging stickers. Did your ds exchange with him? I’ll remind my dd.

ha ha… i heard a friend of mine said that his son who is in Nanyang Pri Sch, also experienced the coin changing scenario there previously… Must start teaching DS the value/denomination of money, as well as how to reply when faced with such a situation…

For them to appreciate the \"value\" of money at this age is tough. As they do not have much experience as to how much $1 or $100 can buy them to date, one method is to have them to try to buy daily household items or food (either to be used or consumed by us or the child) by themselves. I always take every opportunity (not when the place is busy or crowded) to let my girls to buy things (especially food) for themselves whenever we are out. She is able to find out the price (valued under a hundred) of the item, take the appropriate note (in ones and tens) and calculate the change.
Yes, she did have a girl classmate asking for money because she has forgotten to bring money to school. My girl did not give her the money. I advised her to approach the teacher in all these situations and with the acknowledgement of the teacher, she may lend others money. She may be able to handle these money situations in the future after she learned how the differentiate which of those requests for money are the good ones and which are the bad ones.
I have a friend whose boy was outright asked for pocket money from another boy last year in another primary school. The boy gave him the pocket money and ended up without money for food. This happened on subsequent days and my friend reported this to the school and the other boy's parents informed. I think the incidents finally stopped and he is in Primary 2 now. -
The name tags were being ironed on to the uniforms but they soon peeled off. So we have to probably at least sewed the four corners even though they are thought to be ironed on.

Thanks !! Dragonflow
Will sewed the name tag -
There has been some anecdotes from other parents that the canteen vendors sometimes ‘extend credit’ to some pupils when they didn’t bring money for food. It happened to my girl once too. She was short of 10 or 20 cents for something she wanted to buy but the stall auntie allowed her to have it. We are very thankful and promptly prepared extra money for her to return to the stallholder.
