      Hi samsel,

Where is the source of your info?
Look forward to hear from you.

      Samsel:
      Hi magiccastle,

Actually in Yangzheng, after P1, they'll start to stream them according to Mother tongue. They'll group better ones together.
Then the actual streaming will be at the end of P2, they'll stream according to Maths & English. So in P3, good ones will be placed under A & B classes while the rest will not be ranked. Eg. pupils that scored 95% & above for both Maths & English will go to P3A, pupils that scored 90% & above for both subjects will go to P3B, all others will go to P3C,D,E,F etc, not rated, meaning those who go E class doesn't mean that they're weaker than C class.
Then at end of P3, they'll stream again according to English & Science, no longer Maths cos for Maths, they've already recognised better ones to be placed in group 1, 2 etc.
Higher chinese will start in P5, so it's optional.
So this method of banding of class, help each individual student at their own pace. If the student is avg in Maths, she'll not feel so stressful if she's in other class rather than A & B class. For eg, a student from A class may score 49/50 but he's rank in class is only 12, 🕺 while a student from D class scored 43/50, he's rank in class is top 3.

I personally find this type of method quite good, the only thing is they'll have to go to different classes for different subjects. Maybe will be confusing at first, but eventually they'll blend in.

Just like initially when my boy has to attend morning session on every wed, I feel that it's horrible, like upsetting their sleep pattern, but within a week, he's well adjusted. In fact, we like it, at least there's plenty of time in the afternoon for other activities on every wed. Anyway, next yr onwards, will be single session, so no diff! 🤷

As for P1 & P2, those who are struggling reading, Yangzheng do have Learning journeys, where parent volunteers will guide & read to them. They also have Buddy reading, where a buddy in the class that is better in reading will be assigned to a weaker reader to guide him along the way. :hi5:

      Dear Magic castle,

I read from MOE website that Yangzheng Primary will be single morning session in 2013; not 2014.

      Regards,

      The link
      http://www.moe.gov.sg/initiatives/single-session/#planned-transition

Good to see feedback is respected. Either that or student numbers have dwindled for single session to go ahead..

For now, we will anticipate/ request for classes to start at 8am and end at 1.30pm. The ball will be in the principal's court to propose.

Still the wonderful Wednesday's is not really wonderful for me. I sincerely hope yzps will use henry park & nanyang primary as benchmarks for academic & non academic pursuits and replace their current wednesday formula.

*Note. As an old boy, we expect the school to improve that's why we critic.

Hi 2 years back , I remembered the alumni or the school advisory board said that they are trying to apply to MOE to upgrade yangzheng as a SAP Sch . With it's long historical Chinese history n frequent mention of it's name in the Chinese newspaper, I thought the school should tap on it's strong Chinese alumni to build up itself as a SAP school .

Can the school comment on the status? Do the parents have a chance to meet the school advisory board members during any of the school events?
Nowsday, the school doesn't seem to reply to the parents queries at the thread anymore .

I think I did see an article somwhere at the entrance to the school which quoted that Yangzheng should strive to be a SAP school. So far I have not seen or heard anything about this being worked on, maybe the school had done some efforts in this direction and we would appreciate you can share with us.

The school advisory committee has to have deep pockets. Also links with the business community & government will create the environment to the status desired. Great alumni students must step forward to help. Just like hwa chong.

Wonder the teacher get the books from the book-store?

Does anyone know this week the kids what they have learned? Cos the text book are so clean and wondering do the teacher use the text book to teach.
The teachers are using the activity workbooks. Ds was told by teacher to bring his Chinese workbook. When I check with my wife, the workbooks are handed in on day one, 3rd Jan. Maybe my ds didn't put his name on the workbooks.

We still do not know the assessment criteria for P1. Anyone knows?

Please keep the paid receipt so that they know who had paid when they gave out the 6 books in class. The teacher asked the pupils to bring the receipt to school.

Which are the 6 books huh? I thought my son has all his books already...

Er. What are the 6 books?

By the way, pls make sure you ds or dd does not give, exchange or lend money to others. A primary 1 boy approach my ds to change his 20cents for my ds $1 !
