Hi, you can check out the link belowHi I'm new to Kiasu Parents.
My boy is due for enrollment in June for Pri 1.
We are deciding whether to send him to my alumni school (Kong Hwa) or Yangzheng (near my place cos we stay in Serangoon).
If your kids are currently studying in Yangzheng, can drop me a message or something? I would like to find out more about the culture at Yangzheng.
Thank you very much.

You are welcome. You might also want to visit this link. School culture might change over time, especially with new principals.

The teachers are using the activity workbooks. Ds was told by teacher to bring his Chinese workbook. When I check with my wife, the workbooks are handed in on day one, 3rd Jan. Maybe my ds didn't put his name on the workbooks.Wonder the teacher get the books from the book-store?

We still do not know the assessment criteria for P1. Anyone knows? -
Think DS got all the books he’s supposed to get already.
There was no formal lesson in week 1, but they started lessons in week 2. Today is first spelling for DS.
On the name tag, not sure if you plan to iron or sew. DW want to iron it in place before sewing so that it’ll be easier. However, this can be done only for the uniform, as the material of the T-shirt cannot take heat. Iron only the material spoilt. DW did it and I told her that the rubbery material is sure to melt when ironed - so don’t iron the T-shirt.
As for assessment, I was told 2 yr ago (when DW was in P1) that P1 and P2 are for the kids to have fun so that they will enjoy school. P5 and P6 are the years when teachers will prepare them for PSLE, so the 2 yrs are the tough ones. Even up to P4 it’s still quite relaxed. For P1, there is no bearing for the marks on the students’ progress. Then for P2 exams, that will determine the streaming done by the school, and only 3A and 3B are so-called good classes. All other classes are the same and not ‘ranked’. Like the P1 classes (which continue through to P2), the students are grouped together according to some balance between gender and race, so that the classes will not have lopsided spit of boys/girls or they might not have chance to interact with other races…
Then for P3 exams that will decide streaming at P4, which is national streaming. -
Thanks atrecord for sharing.
I know my girl primary 2, will only have SA2 this year.
The Primary one examination have been change to Holistic Assessment.
My girl went through the SA2 when she is primary one.
I guess this is better as Primary one they still not too sure what is exam. -
Does anyone have any thoughts after receiving the Letter to Parents yesterday?
I was quite stunt to see that YZ implemented the Homework guidelines, ie. No certain homework on certain day. I thought it is inflexible and redundant. Teachers may be restricted by this which stop them from giving HW on certain day and instead pressurized to give more on certain days. Indeed, my child came back home also didn’t feel comfortable. In fact, the children themselves already talked among themselves that they didn’t like it. So, yet to see how it will turn out.
Every year the letter also said the new school shoes is a phase-in. However, at school, it was communicated to children that the new shoes and sorts is a MUST at ALL levels. I think YZ really needs to improve its communication within the school itself as well as to parents. -
Hi…my ds is studying in p3a now . Looking forward to share information here…:-)
