There are 5 primary schools zoned under Serangoon (according to MOE).

CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel
      Rosyth School
      St. Gabriel’s Primary School
      Yangzheng Primary School
      Zhonghua Primary School

Rosyth, Yangzheng and Zhonghua are all mixed schools. Of course Rosyth is a SAP school and the most popular in this area.

So far for phase 2b as at 14 Jul 2011:
      Rosyth has 25 vacancies
      Yangzheng has 39 vacancies
      CHIJ OLGC has 45 vacancies
      St. Gabriel has 50 vacancies
      Zhonghua has 80 vancancies

The rest of the school, except Rosyth (phase 2b will most likely to be fully enrolled), will have more vacancies if the seats are not fully taken up at phase 2b.

Anyone knows when the school is going single session. Are they shifting to a temp site first?

            Thanks.

The school has been reducing the classes in recent years. This year is at 7 classes and next year will start at 6 classes.

I heard the school hours is still the same next year. P1 and P2 for afternoon session and the rest for morning session. However, there is a morning session on Wed for P1 and P2. So 4 afternoon session and 1 morning session in a week for them.

There is a high possibility of going to all morning session in the year 2013 (this I heard from one parent I talked to at school). Any parents out there to verify this?

Now Yangzheng have only 67 vacancies left for 2C phrase. Can any one share from the past history what is the ratio of applicants within 1 km, 1-2 km and beyond 2 km ?

For the previous 2 years (2010 and 2009), there are more than 100 applicants for phase 2c.

Looking at this year’s number for phase 2c, I think there will be no phase 2c supp for the school.

So far, the school did not officially release any information regarding the distance categories for phase 2c applicants. Some schools do post these past information on their websites.

My guess is that for those applicants within 1 km will definitely get a place, those applicants within 1 to 2 km will have a high chance to get a place too. As for those who stay beyond 2km may have to ballot if the application number for phase 2c is similar to the past 2 years.

If the school reduce the number further to 5 classes in year 2013 (I hope not), then it will be even be tougher. I see some schools offering only 120/150 seats for primary one.

By the way, there is a good website to check regarding past years enrolment data.

                  http://www.elite.com.sg

But you need to use a facebook account to validate and look at the statistics.

This forum has not been very active for these parents. Any ideas to engage more of them here to exchange views and school’s happenings?

                    Cheers

                      Hi atrecord,

My DD is also going to P1 next year...Do you put your children in the student care?

Sorry, didn't get chance to check this thread recently, as was juggling work and family in june/july (both me and DW had to travel for work...).

                      Hi LiLing,
Nope, my kids are not in the student care, as we're fortunate to have my mum help to look after our DD before/after school (depending on which day). Guess we'll have to continue to count on her to do the same next yr, when DD goes to P3 and DS starts P1.

But i know the hairdresser nearby sends her kids (P1 and P2) to the one in the church...

DS just got in (got letter a week+ ago) to YZ next yr for P1, by virtue of DD being there already. When registered for DD 2 yr ago, i remember checking the MOE site daily, and by the end of the phase (memory failing, can’t remember which phase exactly, but it’s for those who live nearby), there was 1 vacancy left after all the 1 and 2-km families had applied, so presumably all got in. That left only 1 more for anyone staying beyond 2 km…

The sch compound is actually v small, in my opinion. It is surrounded by Zhonghua sec on one side, and a condo on another. The front is a road, so there is zero chance of expansion i think. I had asked the Principal last year (when i was invited for some ‘Tea with the Principle’ session) about when they would go single session, but she could only say ‘not in 2011’, so i guess it’s now ‘not in 2012 too’.

given the space constraint, the only way to go single session is to reduce classes. MOE has a plan/schedule to have all pri schs go single session though, but i can’t remember which year. guess it’s prob too late for DS…

I think it’s quite true that there are lots of applicants because there aren’t many other decent pri schs nearby, since convenience is coveted by many parents. It is not in the league as Rosyth, but at least has a decent heritage and tradition to speak of.

Oh, about the staff, there is one security guy who (i think must be doing a good job to be on it) has a short fuse. To be honest, his job is not easy as he guards the main entrance, guiding/directing traffic (both human and vehicular) which is ridiculous during dismissal time. Once some small private bus didn’t follow his instructions and he let go a string of hokkien explitives, all in full view of parents and students waiting to cross… Tot of complaining to the school but better not break his rice bowl.

By the way, about the wed morning sessions, that’s not all. Last year, there was one fri (which I later found out to be founder’s day celebration) which was also converted to morning session. Students were told by the teachers, and they also wrote in their communication booklets, but of course there will be gaps… DD came home to say that 2 classmates turned up for classes during normal time (when class was almost going to be dismissed that day). And, the last 2 weeks of the year will see all P1 and P2 students having morning sessions too. Come to think of it, where do they house all the students in one session for 2 weeks… So maybe space is not the main issue of not going single session…

Took morning leave today to go for the sch’s Sports Fiesta. DD didn’t win any medal (2nd yr running) and was disappointed. Lucky i managed to ‘siam’ the school’s call for parents to participate in the last event…

Tomorrow is Racial Harmony day, where students are encouraged to dress in ethnic costumes.

So there are actually some activities in the school…
