Same here, I am still packing home bread and a small pack of milo or soy milk for his recess.

based on my observations, p2 is tough for chinese. once you get through p1, the foundation is built and it gets easier for p2. just hang in there. english and maths not tough if child can follow the daily lessons.

No worries. Poi Ching is a good school, teachers super responsible, most Kids as I can see coping well. Just that do not expect a lot of free time or play time.Hi Parents!
I need to register my child for Pri 1 in 2012. I wish to find out how is your child coping with the homework in Poi Ching? Is the scheme really work on them?
As my child still young and he seem to be lazy to do homework, i just worry too much homework, will have negative impact, of course maybe i worry too much.
I just hope that parents here will give me some advice. Thanks.

oh yes, send your DS or DD to some Chinese enrichment program if u are not Chinese speaking family if need be. That may help.

I feel that it all depends on the child on whether there is ‘many homework’ or need to sit beside him to do homework at home.
In term 1, my DS1 has hardly any homework bec he can finish his work in the class. I hardly see any of his chinese and math activity books and didn’t know what he had done then. But my DS2&3 have homework everyday bec either they can’t finish the work in class or have corrections.
Now in term 2, the teacher seems to progress faster than term 1 and many times, there is no time to do the activity books in class. I thot the speed that the sch cover YunYu is too fast - so fast that there is no time to do the YunYu activity book in class! So now, even my DS1 has homework lor!
A sharing of my workload…
Everyday, I must go thru my DS3 bag to DEDUCE what homework/corrections he has. It is a MUST for me to sit beside my DS2&3 so that they do their work. But I only need to get my DS1 to sit down to start his engine without distraction. Once engine started, I can leave him alone.
So, my 5cent worth of conclusion… it is not which sch suit my child but what kind of child do I have. -

Just to give my 2 cents worth as a primary school teacher of many years. Dear parents, spending at least half an hour with your DS or DD in packing his/her bag and going through all the books in his/her bag is vital in the first 3-4 years as this shows that you are 1) interested in your child’s learning in school, and 2)keeping an eye on how disciplined your child is (e.g. is your child spending excess pocket money on unnecessary toys at the bookstore?)
Children are children afterall. If you are a busy working mother or father and only browse through the bag once in a blue moon, the child will soon learn that they can hide their homework or become sloppy in their learning attitude because you "would not find out anyway". Children love to be praised and noticed when they do certain things wel, e.g. writing down their homework neatly in the communication book. Enjoy the parenting journey! -
Yes, tonnes of homework and my son has to do his homework till 11 PM - 12 PM almost every night. Did any child in IC also facing this problem?
Teacher will put up the result and pupils' performance on her blog. Not sure is a good thing or not......

Not just tons. Progress is super fast. Some homework quite challenging. I used to think I have well prepared my girl for P1 and my girl should have ample time 'day dreaming' or idling in P1 and I myself can sit back and relax at least for the first year. I was totally wrong. I have to sit down wz her nearly every evening (if I am not traveling or doing OT) to make sure she finishes all homework in time.angel64:
Every class is different in terms of homework allocation.
I heard 1 C has their own class blog. And tonnes of homework.
My DS in 1E still cope-able with his homework and weekly class test.
But I can see most kids are coping well. They are just amazing. So I will just have to swallow my 'complaints' and try keeping up.
