        Honey:
Seriously, I still think that we should give feedback to the school cos that's one way to help improve. And we are fortunate that the school Principal & VPs are receptive to feedbacks.

Heehee... Maybe I shd feedback that they shd bring back the catering scheme n the Day 1 n 2 programs!! 🙂

Will be beneficial to me when my younger boys go P1!!

DS is in 1I & so far I hv no idea at all on what he did in class these past 3 days!!

He said there was no Math nor Eng worksheets nor Art & Craft! Just sat & listened to teacher talk whole day long! Gosh I wonder if this is true or he is just blur?? All books were taken from his bag but he has no idea what teacher did with his books!

During recess he only managed to get rice 1st day but yesterday & today only ate bread from home & no chance at all to Q as canteen is very crowded! He said can’t even buy drinks from machine! :-((

Also his P5 buddy wanted to play "catching" so eating is not priority!! Sigh

Dun worry scjlrc. The teacher takes the books and locks them up in the big cabinets at the back of the classroom. They will be issued their lockers next week or so. Train your boy to be neater as well and not stuff everything under the desk. My boy and some others got scolded by the co-form teacher last year for being so messy.

Yes, eating is not top priority for these boys. They love to run around and get all dirty. The catered scheme last year was good coz the teacher will make sure they eat at least 3/4 of food.

Actually, nobody complained about the scheme. We only complained about the caterer. Dunno why the school can’t just change the caterer?? Or they could force everyone to bring bento sets like the Japanese kids. These younger kids should just eat in their classrooms.

Since your boy couldn’t buy his food and drinks, pack some in his bag. I packed things that DS likes such as pizza, sushi, nuggets, prata, porridge etc with some cake/fruit/pudding and a packet drink (milk, yoghurt drink, apple juice). You can put a nice sandwich if he likes bread. Occasionally, we give him money to buy food.

Hi scjlrc, yes same for ds too. The new thing yesterday was the Marist Buddy book, quite a bit of info there, even listed the bus fare. Similarly, all books taken except for maths and chinese textbooks which i let ds bring everyday (just the 1A).

I saw in the personal folder, they did a few pieces of worksheets, like "spot the difference", and "find the words" kind, nothing serious. That was for the first day.

ds experience at the canteen is the same, all the queues were long. Finally, he decided on the snacks and got a pack of "something like potato chips" for $1. The P5 buddy so far has been playing with him only, too.

BTW, someone asked about tie, it says in the Marist Buddy that tie worn on Mondays only.

Regarding recess in school, my DS has been eating chicken rice so far. Even yesterday, he ate chicken rice for both recess and lunch! I wonder if he will get sick of it eventually. He did mention that the queue is long but he manage to finish most of it just in time. But I am not sure what he meant by that because he could have eaten only half.

I only allow him to buy drink once a week. Told him he has to drink from his water bottle if possible. He also bought back a packet of potato chips on the first day. Good thing is he doesn’t have time to eat. It is still in the cupboard at home.

For lunch, I admit the timing may seem a bit odd. But this is how most schools operate including secondary schools. Guess we need to get use to it as it is going to be a 10 years affair. It may even get worst in secondary school. I do not think there is much the school can do about it unless they decide to revert back to the arrangement last year. That is to have one very late day and dismiss at 1.15pm on other days. I believe the preference between these two arrangements will be split half-half.

We cope by giving DS a light lunch follow by early dinner. Or he will get a heavy lunch follow by a late dinner. My DS is also a very slow eater. For dinner, he can take up to 1.5 hour to complete his meal. It is always a struggle during meal time. So we are also wondering how much has he been eating in school. I guess we need to learn to let go sometime and let them grow up. There will be a time when they will start to feel hungry during recess and learn to eat very fast. I hope that day will come early for my DS.

If there is anything that need to be brought, the students will usually reflect it in their Marist Buddy. I don't remember that my DS need to bring anything for PAL lessons. He needs to wear house t-shirt during those lessons though.

I prefer the canteen arrangement and let my DS learn to survive through the \"madness\" of queuing and eating fast. He will also learn budgeting. 😄 The best is to have both systems. The boys are allow to eat in class with catered food/packed food or go to canteen for recess. That way, the canteen may not be so crowded.

But the businesses at the canteen may be affected unless they are also the vendors for the catered food.

I guess since now ds1 is P2 - i dont have any major issues with him buying food from canteen bah - plus - he had ‘experience’ last year during his lunch break before his CCA start.

But for P1 - i think it would be better to have the catered scheme. Can imagine those poor P1 being ‘lost’ and overwhelmed. Quite a different experience from their Kindy days.

Just a tot - maybe they shd consider bringing back catered scheme for at least the P1sy? i can imagine ds2n3 getting totally lost in the canteen when they start school!!
